Be careful or you’ll end up with shin splints. Try slowing down. You might need proper fitted shoes.

Awwwwwwww thank you so much β™₯ for the extremely kind advice 😊

I will deffo take it on board and see about my trainers!! I thought these trainers πŸ‘ŸπŸ‘Ÿwere perfect πŸ‘Œ as they are an expensive designer pair!!

But guess money πŸ’· doesn't buy health though eh?

I can see your a graduate πŸŽ“ how has your experiences been? Any further tips and advice would be much appreciated x

Well done for finishing your first run of W5 - however PLEASE be careful when it comes to shin pain, if you aren't careful you will end up with shin splints which can take weeks to recover from! Just slow down and be careful. Tasha99 may be right about the shoes.

Awwwwwwww is been a while πŸ˜‚ you OK πŸ‘Œ?

Oooh I can't be a few weeks off as I've worked πŸƒ so hard to get here!!

What I've also noticed is weird is my arms πŸ’ͺare getting bigger?

Is that normal πŸ˜‚ xx

packersrunsGraduateβ€’ in reply toBlondieCanRun5k

Yeah I’m ok, thank you! Good to see you progressing :) Just rest for your rest day and don’t push it, might just be how you are running or maybe because you aren’t doing dynamic stretches beforehand so your body isn’t as warmed up as it could be! Your arms most likely feel like they are getting bigger because you are most likely losing body fat from doing cardio so you’ll notice small things like that - I noticed my calf’s first more than anything πŸ˜‚ xx

Awwwwwwww bless you β™₯ I'm so glad 😊 your OK. That's fantastic news πŸ“°!!

Must be the way I'm running πŸƒ and deffo not doing any stretches before my workout πŸ‹οΈ!!

I've got my second run πŸƒ today a bit nervous and really nervous about the 20 min non stop πŸ›‘ running πŸƒ!!

How did you get over that fear 😱 x

My arms πŸ’ͺ are looking well good πŸ˜‚ x

I found stretches really helped me be a lot more warmed up as I found I was quite stiff some days from some of my workouts the day before! It’s definitely a mental thing but you do just have to completely concentrate on breathing, taking it easy and listening to your songs and not focusing on anything else. Someone suggested to me that if you have any negative thoughts to rub them out with a eraser in your head as if your negative thoughts are on paper, which helped me so much! One of my tips is if you aren’t feeling the song - change it! It helps me so much when I know I’m fine physically, but exhausted mentally and I know a different song will help me speed up or keep a good mindset! Hope that’s any help to you! xx

Awwwwwwww that's deffo right in πŸ’― percent going to take the stretches πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ more seriously!!

I might carry a pencil ✏ with me πŸ˜‚ and erase everytime I get a negative βž– thought πŸ’!!

I might even create a bubble πŸ—― πŸ˜‚ and just pop it everytime I get negative βž–!!

The main reason is if you would have asked me 5 years ago that I'll be running πŸƒ 5 minutes on thy trot 🐴 I'd be like naah don't lie πŸ€₯!!

I've started listening to more motivational softer music that really pushes me through and it's AWESOME!! It's in Arabic and sounds so serene πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ!!

That's a huge help, thank you so much β™₯ xx

runnersworld.com/health-inj... - these are some of the dynamic warm ups I do!

Bubble sounds like a really good idea too, might even try that on my next run!

Don't worry, I think my friends and family are shocked that I can run for 25 minutes (tomorrow it will be 28) so that feeling will get better and better!

Motivational music is honestly key, don't know where I would be without it!

Ooooooh 28 mins πŸ•’ that's brill β™₯!! Awwwwwwww please let me know how you get on for inspiration 😊.

Awwwwwwww thank you I was sore yesterday πŸƒ and did some of the stretches you recommended πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ and after using a massager πŸ’† I was much better, thank you β™₯!!

I've got this really good Arabic Inspirational Song, which really inspires me. Give it a listen πŸ‘‚ and tell me what you think πŸ€” xx

Follow the advice in the guide to the plan on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Thank you so much for replying but also for your very kind advice 😊 it's very much appreciated!

I think πŸ€” that I need to really start doing stretches πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ before running πŸƒ as I'm running πŸƒ for longer now!

Any further tips and tricks?

Oh yeah do you run πŸƒ with your back straight or curved??

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentorβ€’ in reply toBlondieCanRun5k

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.

This is more important than pre run dynamic stretching in my opinion.

Awwwwwwww thank you so much!!

I've checked the link and there's some really good tips there 😊 !!

You never would think that stretching πŸ‹οΈ before would be so important!!

Just out of curiosity when your running πŸƒ I like to think of the road ahead and that helps to think less of the running πŸƒ time ⌚!!

Is there any other way of thinking πŸ’ any different πŸ€”?

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentorβ€’ in reply toBlondieCanRun5k

I stated in my last answer that I believe that post run stretching is more important than pre run stretching. The important thing is not to use the wrong stretches, so check out the guide if you are confused.

Don't think about time or the physicality of running, just let your mind wander.

For me, running is some of my most creative and useful thinking time and the subject can be absolutely anything.

That's awesome!! Thank you so much!!

I think for myself because I'm not that fit πŸ₯΅ I think about my breaks more than letting my mind 🧠 wander, which I might do today πŸƒ!!

I will deffo do stretches πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ before and after my workout πŸ‹οΈ and see how that helps!!

I've got a massager πŸ’† that I might use after as well πŸ˜‚!!

Thank you so much!!
