Stated running 5 months ago and managed to get to run nonstop for about 2K. Then 3 months in I started to get a gradual pain in the outside of my left knee, which I ignored and tried to run through. The result was it hurt like hell when I walked it felt like the joint was full of grit. I did what all good healtg conscious men do and headed straight for the Internet for a diagnosis.
Got it down to ITB syndrome and stopped. Wierdly I found myself getting slightly depresses at not being able to get out there.
Now after a 2 months of rest and stretches I started this course. The first 2 runs went well and I was suprised at how hard it was to run after a short break. Then on the 3rd run bang the knee pain was back.
So once again I head to the internet for my medical advice.
HELP....

Forget the Internet - see your GP. You need a proper diagnosis before you can begin to fix it. Most problems can be sorted by a physio and a properly fitted pair of good running shoes.
Go see your GP! Quickest and easiest way to work it out heds71. I need to do the same, had a bad fall on my left knee last year and on last nights run it was quite sore. I should have gone when I had the fall, but didn't, so I'll need to take my own advice here too!!
I had knee ache, outside of the knee but I put it down to not being strong enough, so I decided to make myself stronger through exercise. It worked. I got rid of my ankle and knee pain and have been back to running every other day for ages. Fingers crossed, without further problems. I hope you get yours sorted
I started doing exercise DVD's at home, starting with yoga. I Googled ankle exercises and did loads of those. I walk everywhere rather than drive and I think that helps strengthen the legs. I now use exercise DVD's nearly every day. I'm using Jillian Michaels ones and working my way through them. They have circuit training routines, incorporating cardio, abs, lunges and crunches, boxing moves, handweights etc. Very varied and aimed at improving all-over body strength. I'm a lot fitter now than I was and the niggly ankle and knee pain has gone. Touch wood
I think we try and run too far, too long before our bodies are strong enough.
You could try cycling and swimming as well. Every little helps
Well FYI. It is an IT band injury rest exercise and physio. Tried to get out last week and got 20 mins into run then wallop, not happy, recovery may take months as I am told.
