A fool in the mid-day sun?

A mad fool in the mid-day sun!

I’m not a good runner at all and am slowly making progress through the course. I completed W4R2 yesterday but due to one thing and another didn’t start until just after mid-day in the sunshine.

Compared to the previous run which followed the same route, I was ahead by about 30 yards at half way but finished about 70 yards short of where I’d been before. I could hardly raise either leg for any sort of run, and could very easily have been passed by an enthusiastic walker.

Is it the sunshine I should avoid or am I just going backwards a bit? If I just st has a poor run, will I still get better?

For sure it’s the sunshine!

There’s no deadline to meet, 3 times a week it says with a rest day in between. Some need extra days and that’s fine.

Take care of yourself, it could be dangerous going out for a run in this heat.

Btw no such thing as a bad runner, you’re doing it and it matters not one bit how slow you are 😀

Thank you so much for your support. I’m planning run 3 when it’s much cooler and that looks like Friday. Confidence was knocked a bit by my stupidity but I’ll guve it my best shot!

Hi 030961,

I am amazed you actually went out at that time of day yesterday , well done for actually jogging/running albeit slow .

That’s exactly how I completed the course. Really slow , people could walk faster than me but it paid off .

My W8 and W9 were challenging and acceptable. I was able to jog n run for thirty minutes by the end W9R3 . Speed or distance never came into it.

Once you have achieved your target of thirty minutes and graduated , then the magic begins.

I usually go out between 6:30 / 7am. Tomorrow I’m thinking 5:30am!

Drink your water and soak a handkerchief scarf in water then freeze it.

It’s a bit of a shock when it first touches your neck , but boy O’boy worth it.

Hello 03! At this stage of proceedings, I wouldn’t worry about how far ahead or behind you are on your runs. The main. This is just to get out there and do them - though maybe not at the hottest part of the day! I’m sure that’s why you struggled - but that was then, you can chalk it up as a practice and move on from here! There will always be bad runs and good ones too so don’t worry!

Thank you so much. I’ll take all of the advice on board. I’ll keep going and I keep telling Jo Wiley my mentor ‘Jo....I’m not stopping’ and after saying that a few tines, I seem eventually to make it to the end!

A really bad time to run... midday is the hottest...rest up...repeat the run...not at midday...and enjoy it:)

It’s tough out there... great job. As the advertised temperature is in the shade, running in the sunlight will only make you even hotter. I tried to run to keep my heart rate down yesterday, and although I was putting in a really low effort, my heart was constantly beating a little faster than planned. I doubt very much that it’s even possible you’re going backwards... the heat is stupidly high, humidity is up, and the sunshine is compounding it all. Run early if you can, it’s pretty pleasant running conditions until 9ish.
