No fool like a middle aged fool

I've been struggling with my post grad runs, usually about 30'minutes - really short of breath, panting and gasping, and running out of batteries after 20 minutes, I really wasn't enjoying it at all, and was wondering when that would change.

Fitbit was telling me my pace was about 10.30 min per mile which I felt was a bit slow, plus I was only doing about 2.8 miles though I suspect the accuracy is a bit off too.

I therefore decided on my last run to follow advice and slow it down and got a huge surprise - the run was much easier , I actually enjoyed it, I ran 3.5 miles with easy (ish) breathing , was much less sweaty and didn't get the loss of energy that I have been.

And best of all my actual pace is almost unchanged

And the moral of the story is to Slow Down! Which I should have known .....

I simply cannot think how you could have missed that fact... especially with me banging on about it all the darned time:)

Fast enough to get there.. ( and you did!) but slow enough to see!

That was The Point that l picked up quickly. I'm tall and skinny, to an untrained eye looking from a distance l may resemble a pointy coat hanger bounced around by the wind. I simply had to learn how to make my natural long strides shorter and slower and, lo and behold, l could suddenly go much further, the breath doesn't get lost, my mind is at ease, all is right :) This forum offers some top advise, and l thank you for that :)

It takes different lengths of time for (mainly men) runners to realise that pushing hard all is not the most productive way to run. Mea culpa.
