It’s been a while since I’ve posted. This is the fourth time I’m attempting the C25K and am determined to do it. Feeling deflated today though as woke early and went for the W4 run 1 session. I did the first 3minutes and the first 5minutes and completed them but then struggled with the next 3 & 5 min runs. I didn’t stop all together and carried on a fast walk but couldn’t run the whole way. The 3 min I must’ve stopped running half way and the 5min after two mins each with about 30sec walk before starting to attempt to run again

I was so chuffed when I did the first 5mins but then let myself down. Still determined to carry on but deflated especially as previous weeks had gone okay”ish”

To be honest I have tried to slow down and find it hard to go slower than I am

Morningx was it the body or the mind that stopped you ? X

I

Battle with my mind every run

It tells me I can’t do it I need to walk .... but you just need to keep podding on ?

Do you think you are setting off to fast ? Then running out of steam ? X

Try again but go slower and build up up your speed as the weeks progress xxx

Thank you. Physically I feel my legs could it. I’m sure some of it is psychological but every time I try the C25K it is my breathing that I find so hard to regulate. No matter how slow I go it’s my breathing that makes me go into the fast walk mode.

Yesterday though I did continue and did the first 3min, second 5 min and third 3min. I started final 5 min and went into fast walk after 2 mins and then again a little later for total of 20-30 seconds. It was better than the session before and at the end I “ran” an extra minute as felt guilty for the time I’d walked

I am a scuba diver and my breathing for that is one of the best but breathing and running is something I wonder if I’ll ever get and if I will ever enjoy running. One things for sure I’m determined to complete it

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks for your reply and information.

I can shout at Jo but no matter what speed I go at and at what pace trying to regulate my breathing over the four attempts at C25K has always been an issue.

I scuba dive and have the nickname fish because my air consumption and breathing is so good but running is something that my breathing from the first minute just can’t regulate it.

The last run I did first thing in the morning and I think may be I wasn’t hydrated enough and hadn’t had anything to eat.

I did do the next run yesterday and it went slightly better. I did the two three min runs and one of the five. The final five I went into fast walk mode Twice for total of 20-30 seconds. I kicked myself after and completed another minute run as a guilt run.

I am not a runner and to be honest don’t enjoy it (hope one day I will) but am determined to keep on trying

Thanks for great advice. I went out for a run last night and ran 3 x 5 minutes....and didn’t stop. Gotta say it felt good! Especially after not completing the first runs from last weeks session. Don’t know why but the three 5 mins felt slightly easier than last week.

Thanks for all the advice and support
