Today I needed some exercise on my non run day. So I walked one of my run routes. I reckon it only took 10 minutes longer.
Is that normal? It did feel easier than running.

Since a lot of people say they run slower than their fastest walk I’d say that if you were walking fast it’s probably totally normal
Thanks. There is still part of me that wonders whether I’m doing this right!!!
Hope you are getting on ok now you’re back!
Thinking about this, and with an eye on your answer re ground covered... my 5k run and 5k brisk walk aren’t that far apart... I’d have to go see as I haven’t done a walk like that recently... I’d guess 15 minutes tops though.
Good point. I’ve double checked and i took 18 minutes longer for the same kms so that feels ok. Funny thing, it felt odd and wrong to be walking that route!!
I often run in the park that my local parkrun is held in. I’ve yet to run it on a Saturday at 9am, but when I do its going to feel really strange as they all go the wrong way round!
I was reading between Mr Kipchoge’s attempts at a 2 hour marathon that the walking record for the distance was under 3 hours... so those paces at elite level would give a 14:15ish run, and a 21:30ish walk for 5k... 10 minutes must be about right for us mere mortals.
That’s really useful! Amazing how quickly we build running habits!
The difference between running and walking isn't speed, it's the action of the body. When walking you always have contact with the ground. Whereas, at some point during your running stride both feet will leave the ground. Essentially, it's a single leg exercise where you constantly move all your body weight from one leg to the other. That's why is so much harder than walking, whatever speed you're doing it at.
You're doing great! 👍
