Yes, take it nice and slow, the aim is to complete each run not to set land speed records, etc.

A slow jog is fine and actually promoted, as long as you are using a running motion speed is irrelevant.

Set yourself 'run days' so you get into the habit quickly, mine are normally Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, I prefer to run in a morning but that is something you will need to test out yourself.

Above all, enjoy the runs, anything that is a chore you won't stick at, if you enjoy it then you'll stick with it.

Hi golf 2012. Just read your bio. I was running to get in shape improve health etc. Firstly o haven't lost much weight and I'm touching week 7 however my body shape has changed for the better and I think that's better for self esteem.

Mostly as everyone will tell you hydrate will become a mantra. Im drinking a river every day now and still probably enough.

Keep it slow. The faster you push the most likely it is you'll stop or struggle. I found once id found my pace and sorted my gait within the first few weeks it all fell in place but instead of trying to sprint the non walks I just kept a constant pace and you get to the end with much more confidence and consistency.

And if you struggle with anything come on here and vent its a massive mug of chicken soup for your broken mind post run everyone is super supportive

Good luck and enjoy

Hi 👋 Great advice thank you. I like the bit about keeping it slow.

Welcome - I’ve recently graduated and here’s what I’ve learnt

Slow and steady wins the race - find your inner 🐌🐢it’s all about stamina not speed

Follow the programme- it works! Don’t do extra even if you feel like you can and take the rest days.

Hydrate - I still don’t drink enough but I’m much more conscious of my water intake now

Stretch - can’t emphasise enough how important stretching is afterwards - yoga stretches work for me but I’m sure you’ll find what works for you

Music 🎧 is my saviour - distraction is the key - some people like podcasts. Whatever floats your boat.

Finally when the going gets tough remember why you started and come on here for support advice and encouragement- I think i only found this forum after W5 wish I’d found it earlier

Finally finally - enjoy!

Am on week 7 and here's what I have learned.

Slow and steady does it. Go slower than you think you need to. Speed can come later when your body is used to running - which will take time.

Drink water to keep hydrated.

Dynamic stretching pre run and static stretching post run.

Take your rest days - and more than one day if you feel like you need it.

Post on this forum if you need help, advice, encouragement or just want to brag about your progress. This is a really positive helpful place.

Finally enjoy your journey

In addition to all the great advice above...do not be afraid to take extra rest days...it doesn't always have to be Mon, Wed, Fri - I'm currently taking two rest days between runs whilst I sort myself out. Just make sure you get out on day 3!

And with regard to keeping a slow pace, if you haven’t already seen it, please take yourself off to YouTube and watch the Japanese Slow Running video. It’s a revelation and many of us wouldn’t have got so far without it! 😀👍
