Welcome to the best forum IN THE WORLD Lindajmozz23 ....here’s my advice....start off slow, then slower still.....find a pace that you’re comfortable with & stick to it......if you don’t quite manage a run, bag the stamina & kms & try again...keep posting on here, the advice, encouragement & support are absolutely invaluable....I’ve only just graduated so I really am no expert but I couldn’t have done it without this lovely lot....good luck, I’ll be looking out for your update!

Hey Linda, do not feel nervous, I had not run for 30 years and if I can do it so can you.

Just remember to take it easy, nice and slow, your muscles will not be used to you running and you need time to build up lower body strength, it will come!

Make sure you take a days rest between runs to ensure you allow your muscles and body to recover.

And most of all, enjoy yourself, it should be fun and not a chore.

👍🏃👍

Hi, I started my C25K journey today. I've never been able to run and am overweight too. I took my kids out for support as was nervous about being seen - so happy I've done it - next run on Tuesday 😄

Hi Emmawest, how is your C25K going? X

Run so slowly that you are aware of how you are running. Focus on what your body is doing - your mind will be thinking "running means FAST!" and subconsciously you will, unless you pay attention, start off too quickly, tense and stressed.

Relax and just kind of "amble run" :) If breathing is a problem - slow down. If heavy legs a problem -slow down. ANY problems - SLOW DOWN ☺

Read the beginner posts of Graduates - lots of shared experiences, hints, support and so forth. You will see you are not running alone or in any terminally unique way :)

About the only "unbreakable rule" is - observe the Rest Days. :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future.

Thankyou Irish-John, starting wk5 tommorrow and feel nervous but then remember feeling nervous about running for 60 seconds! I don’t always quite finish the last part of the run but I’m giving it a good go and have signed up for a 10k in March 😳😳, thankyou for your advice x

Enjoy it Linda :)

Honestly, I both laugh and cringe at a lot of my early posts now. 😊

I was SO seriously invested in the programme that I was living on my nerves some weeks :)

It's fun now - not the "pressure on to succeed" mess I made it on some days :)

8 weeks/5K.... meh!! :)

A run is a run is a run :)

And my first "race" when ALL that I hoped to achieve was to cover the 5k without having to walk any part of it was a blast... I simply lolloloped along, being passed by truly ancient greybeards and wizened little old ladies and the heck with it all....and was gobsmacked when I made a PB that was five minutes and a bit under my previous PB :)

So much of this running lark is mental - and I try and keep it fun so I don't drive myself mental LOL :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

Good luck!! You have made an excellent decision to do this. It isn't easy but it could change your life and certainly your health. Go slowly, breathe, get gait analysis for proper shoes once you are committed to doing it ( I only say this as they aren't cheap and it's an investment but worth it)....

You're in good company on here as many of us started just the same having NOT run for many years and again many of us carrying a few more lbs than we should be

So don't worry get yourself out there and get started, it is hard to start with but so so worth it, I am now already so much fitter and lbs lighter and enjoying it, even took my running gear on holiday and ran in the beautiful menorcan sunshine

I felt the same, I'm on W3 now, which I thought wouldn't happen. Just do it and love it and don't give up. I hurt like hell after the first run but haven't had any stiffness since, so if that happens don't worry, and don't let it put you off. Good luck.

Just take one run at a time. Take it slowly. Then do the next.

Oh and check on on here for all the support you'll ever need.

I started 6 weeks ago with NO experience of any form of exercise. Have faith in the programme, take your rest days and take it slow and steady. You will get lots of helpful advice on here. Welcome and enjoy 👏

I started a couple of weeks ago. I'm on week 3. I too hadn't done any running for years. My advice is to take it slow and steady and you will amaze yourself. Enjoy your journey and keep us posted on your progress. There is so much support in this group. Very inspiring 😀

Don't worry about anything at all, just go and enjoy the feeling of being outside and moving. Go as slowly as you can to begin with - just keep your legs moving and you will get there. Honestly. If I can anyone can and I'm so glad I did. It won't take many runs before you feel as though you want to run, rather than you have to. Cheering from the sidelines! x
