Evening all. I'm thinking of getting a running watch when I graduate (2 runs to go!). I have a specific question... I currently have Strava on my ipod, but lose the GPS down a country lane which makes up about half of my favourite route. Am I likely to have the same problem with a running watch? (I don't have data on the ipod). If not, what would you recommend?
Many thanks
Liz

The GPS units in most quality running watches will generally give better reception than an iPod or phone, but if there is a black spot, there is a black spot.
Even the top quality watches will give unreliable results on occasions.
Perhaps you can borrow one or see on Strava if anyone else runs your route.
According to Garmin, my phone is always going to be more accurate than my watch if it’s in network coverage... outside cellular network range they will be very similar. Depending on the age of the iPod, the gps will be similar to iPhone outside of network coverage, or indeed in airplane mode.
One way to reduce the inaccuracies on the watch is to not start when it first says ready, and wait a few minutes.
I’d recommend a Garmin, the difficulty with phones, I find, is, it’s a phone, all the additional gizmos on a phone are just that, additions .....I have always found my Garmin better than my phone for activity tracking, as it has one job to do and that’s what it’s built for.....
There is a huge variety out there, from basic trackers to some that measure all sorts of whatnot, depends on what you want.......I’ve always wanted the evidence that I have done ‘that’ run....😂.....and that’s all........although I’m eyeing up the swanky Garmin with music ready for when my current one falls over.....😂...
Hope you find something that suits, happy hunting!
