Week 1, run 1....finished.
My question is how do you get rid of the pain, if you feel it, down the front of ones shins?
Cheers

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
Wow, we're in perfect sync! Congratulations on completing week 1! I don't have shin pain but maybe that's from impact. Maybe I do have shin pain but it's masked by all the other pain...
Well done on your first run, and in such beautiful surroundings too! I’m definitely no expert but, for me, the pain down the front of the shins came when my stride was too long. My feet were coming into contact with the ground in front of my body. I’ve since learned that my feet should make contact with the ground beneath my body, which is done by shortening your stride. Hopefully you’ll get more advice from people with much better knowledge and experience than me, but that might be a good starting point?
Slow down - and google Japanese Running (not winding you up honestly!) it makes running so much easier!!
And most importantly- enjoy it!
I’m back! Here, have a look at this ... a revelation for me ...
Hope it works ....
Pace is key and plenty of water each day, other than that just allow you body time to adjust 😊
Shoes.. make sure you have proper running shoes...
Hi and thanks God the advice. I've been googling all sorts since yesterday and by crikey its a minefield of there! Feet turned in? Feet turned out? Landing on your toes? Landing in your heels? Too fast? Too long a stride? Leaning forward too much? Trainers not right? Have two pair of trainers and alternate each run? Stretch before running. Don't stretch before running. But everyone seems to agree to warm down and stretch after running though!
This isn't a moan or a rant it just appears as though I could get bogged down on the detail....
Finally, leading to my point.....does anyone know a good shoe/running shop in or around exeter or south devon where I could go and get professional advice regarding the correct footwear for me? Please. Thanks
