What on earth do I do now??!🥺

So, as some of you will know, I've recently restarted C25K after being very poorly again in the new year........now, I've gotten to week 5, run 3......and by gum, despite 'teething troubles ' and a bit of experimentation to get my inhalers just right, I was thoroughly enjoying myself. God, how I love pounding the pavements, or the muddy track, I'm not precious!🤣 I even started to look for the inclines and viewing them as challenges to be mastered, rather than the 'dreaded' hills........and now? Well, I've developed a knee issue.....when I say developed, I've always had this tendency towards 'creaky' knees, then, about 3 weeks ago after a run one day, then a small, gentle bike ride on my rest day.....a bruise appeared, just on top of my knee cap, felt squishy and sore.....'oops' thought I, did too much, have a rest.......it carried on being bruised for around 10 days, was painful for some of that time as well. So, I rested it, almost completely, I didn't run at all. Then I gently started with my yoga, then added equally gentle pilates in between, really taking it easy.........now, I feel like my knee is fit to pop! Its aching all the way up my thigh bone, in sort of waves, occasionally stabbing pains shoot up, feels hot and slightly swollen.....no visible bruising......yet....what have I done???!! I'm scared to death I've got some horrible knee disease that will stop me running.......my husband recently got a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in his knee....physio said no running........oh, I can't face being told no running............🥺help.....?

*Update on this! I've probably got Bursitis!! "Rest it completely, ice every couple of hours.....painkillers....rest...." oh boy.....🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Having recently faced up to the possibility of being told "No running" myself, I sympathise, but without a diagnosis you have no idea whether this can be quite simply corrected, or whether that by delaying you run the risk of permanent damage which could, at worst, mean no walking.

Get an appointment asap and put your trust in our wonderful health service.

Doing nothing is not going to help.

Hope you’ll get some advice that leads to a full recovery soon Soniabrown!! Is it possible that your recovery exercises might have put a little extra requirement on the knees? Hopefully, it will something that will settle back down soon. 🤗❤️

Do you have a foam roller? They can help to find leg muscle stiffness and this may help your knee pain.

I do yes, but I'm thinking my next step needs to be medical advice at minor injuries or somewhere......the discomfort has kept me awake a lot during the night....

You’re doing the right thing by reaching out. It’s horrible to think after all your hard work you may need a rest while you heal. But I think you know the right thing is to get a check up.

I empathise as I’ve had knee problems too.

Hope all goes well 🌸😊🌸
