Knee pain

Wondering if anyone has had the same thing and can offer up any advice. I only made it to the end of week 2 and I hurt my knee. I didn’t feel any pain whilst running, if came a day or 2 later. It’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve hurt it and it’s still sore and slightly swollen. The pain is pretty much constant, sometimes just a dull ache, other times really quite sore. I’ve been doing the usual ice, knee up etc. Is it time to go to the doctors or is this something common that just takes a while to heal? X

I had terrible inside pain on both knees when I started - very sore. Not stabbing but just a dull painful ache. Doing squats and hip stretches on rest day saved me. Plus yoga - and lots of ice! Got better in around 8 days and also drank more water and sometimes gave myself 2 days rest between runs.

This happened to me too, but one knee swollen sounds more like an injury.

Ibuprofen is the way forward 🤣 maybe get it checked if it doesn’t get better soon.

The guide to the plan has advice on dealing with injury and links to the NHS sports injury page.

Rest up and continue the PRICE principles until pain free.

It sounds quite extreme so I would try to get advice from a physio or doctor.

When you restart try to follow the advice in the guide on minimising impact and maybe doing knee strengthening exercises.

I have a dodgy knee so use a brace, was only a few quid off eBay and does the trick 😊

Thank you for the replies, I have a compression sleeve coming tomorrow, going to use that and look at some strengthening exercises. If I don’t see improvement by the end of the week I think it will be a trip to the docs on Monday ☹️ Just desperate to get back to running, I was so pleased to get to the end of week 2 and now I’m hoping I’m not going to be back at square one x

Does it hurt when you walk up the stairs?

It hurts the majority of the time, but I wouldn’t say the stairs are worse. I struggle to get up them because I can’t put much pressure on my knee but that’s about it. It’s a strange one, sometimes I rest my knee and it feels quite good after, other times resting makes it feel worse.
