C25K Week 7 run 1

Really struggled with this today and had to keep stopping. I did the full run for 25 mins but with lots of walking breaks. Felt awful and really tight chest. Tried to breath in through my nose and out my mouth but kept finding myself mouth breathing and struggling to maintain rhythm. My period started last night and I was suffering bloating and cramps etc, does anyone else find their running affected by their monthly cycle? Hoping the next run is better. Maybe I should go back to week 5? Can anyone advise? Thank you x

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on pacing, breathing, minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running. I would suggest that hydration may need addressing.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you. I am not great at keeping myself hydrated so I will try to sort that out for my next run. I will also click in the link you sent for breathing advice. Thanks again.

As a runner you need to drink 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

Wow! I am totally not doing that currently. Starting today! Thank you.

I find the running helps ease symptoms - just have to be super hydrated and take it extra extra slow. X ps I try not to think about my breathing apart from making sure I start breathing deeply during my warm up walk x

Take it easy, slow down if you can, keep at it, you’ll get there 😊

Thank you all. I think slowing down and staying hydrated is the key. I’ll try not to worry too much about my breathing too x
