Feeling Deflated First Run

Hi all, I'm 32 and although not overweight, am very unfit. I do lots of walking in my job but have never properly exercised until now. Have wanted to start running for a while so am attempting this at the suggestion of a friend.

Shortly got back from my first attempt at run 1 and feel very deflated. I could only do 3 of the runs and had to walk the rest.

I know there are lots of advice posts on here but has anyone gone through something similar? I also suffer from endometriosis and am hoping this wont impact my plan to get fit.

Thanks in advance, Heather

Hi, Heather, you mirror me, Im 33, not that overweight, but very unfit and i also tried and failed run 1 at pretty much the same point today.

Don't give up, have tomorrow to rest, and we'll both improve on wed's! Keep in touch :)

Maybe you were trying to run too fast on the running bits. Make sure you are going slow, you should be able to hold a conversation. It’s very easy to try to run too fast

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on pacing, minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

If you look at my posts you'll see that yes, I did. It took me a long time to work up to running through every one of the run segments but I hit every run spot on after that.

I am sure you are doing the right thing by just walking the rest of the session if you have to stop running. The guide IannodaTruffe has pointed you to is invaluable. I'll add that it is worth considering a slower walking pace too and taking smaller steps if you start to struggle.

Some of us have found that big firm control knickers are helpful, a bit like a sports bra for the tum!

Welcome! My first two runs the last half I was literally dragging my feet along the ground. I repeated some of the runs and now will repeat some of week 2s.

It's not an end goal but what works for you.

I also found reading all the guide posts really helpful.

Keep at it!!

Good luck...
