First Run - what a feeling!

Hello!

I am brand new to this- completed my first run on Monday and going to do my second tonight. I don't think I am really built for running (think swimmer's shoulders and child-bearing hips) but..... I got such a sense of accomplishment from completing the first run that I can't wait for the second! This came as a great surprise to me as I am a complete exercisephobe!

I have been reading this forum today and have already gained lots of tips and encouragement. I'm sure I'll go through hips and lows doing this so it's great to find a forum that seems so supportive of others.

Wishing you all exhilarating runs!

Welcome aboard the good ship C25K! That first 60 second run was mind blowing and satisfying for me, seems like you're getting those vibes too! Good luck, take your time and enjoy!

Welcome to this great place.. we are, all shapes, sizes and ages!

Just follow the programme and take it slow and steady... Rest days are essential. but non impact exercise, such as swimming :) on those days is great!

Keep posting, successes and set backs.. you will get great support and encouragement! Loads of Newbies started this week and we have a whole load of new Graduates too ..

Enjoy!

I am DEFINITELY not built for running. I don't know about child bearing hips, I have dinosaur bearing hips!!!!!! That's the great thing about this programme - old, young, fat, thin - it somehow works for all of us. Running is cheap and easy to access (note, easy to access, not easy to do) and great exercise. Listen to your body, wear the right trainers and the rubbish that everyone (non running couch potatoes mostly) spout about it being bad for your joints just isn't true. Running builds strength in your bone and cardiovascular system. Good luck and don't forget to post on here - when you have a bad run we'll pick you up and when you have a great run we'll share in your celebration!

I know - without this amazing forum I very much doubt I'd have stuck it out! Just paying it forwards!

Just wait till you get to week 9. You will be dancing round the room in delight at how far you have come! Stick with it. This a brilliant programme...

I am so overwhelmed by all the amazing words of encouragement and reassurance. Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. The support came in handy tonight when I got my 'mid run doubts' as I was huffing and puffing my way through my second run. I got through it..... just! Thanks again to all of you for being so welcoming.

Well done for completing your second run - you'll soon have week 1 in the bag ready to tackle week 2. This programme is amazing - it really does do what it says on the tin! Never in a million years did I think I could run more than 1k let alone 5k without stopping but it worked! Love it and now get twitchy if I go more than 2 days without running!

Take it slow and steady and strangely enough you will enjoy it πŸ˜€

Good luck with the second run! So good to hear from a fellow week one runner. :-) The sense of achievement is great isn't it- even if I look like a beetroot at the end of my runs!

Any shape is a shape, personally I am working the barrel shape...

Whichever shape it will work out just fine and it's great to see you sounding so enthusiastic. Good luck next time out

I'm certainly not built for running! I'm 5ft and 13st and a G cup!! I'm 49 years old and haven't run since I was in school..Starting week 6 this evening!! If I can get this far anyone can! Just don't give up that's my advice. You'll shock yourself and feel fantastic about your achievement. Good luck x
