Shoe advice

I am about to start week 8 on Tuesday-never thought I’d get this far as I puffed and panted my way through the first couple of week!

I bought some budget, but very light and comfy, Skechers from TKMaxx at the beginning of my running adventure,at the end of Feb. I figured if I didn’t stick at it I could wear them with jeans etc And for walking.

Anyway, they’re ok, but I feel I need something a bit more supportive now doing longer stretches of running, although I’d like something light and spongey and not too expensive as I am self employed and not earning at the moment, like lots of folk.

Obviously I can’t go and try on, so does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced trainers from a company which is good about returns? I have wider than average size 6.5 feet. I’ve looked at decathlon and theirs seem reasonably priced and wondered if anyone has bought them from there and if they’re any good?

Thanks 😊 x

It is really difficult at the moment. Have a look at the sale section of sportsshoes.com. Ive just bought a pair of Asics from them and their customer service is faultless. They also have advice on which shoes might be best for you.

Hi shuffleshuffle ! This is a horrible time for buying running shoes because most of the advice would be to get to an independent running shops and get a gait analysis done to make sure you get the most suitable shoes for you! Lots of people like Decathlon though I don’t know what their returns policy is like. Brooks are really good and I believe their returns policy allows you to wear the shoes outside before returning them. Hope you manage to find something to fit!

I bought some from amazon that were light weight and too wide for me. They seemed to have good support. I’m a 38 normally and the 39s fitted in length. They were prime so free returns. Reasonable price too. I search for women’s rocker running show so I get the style I like and they come up on there.

My sisters, who are both long term runners advised me to purchase Asics which I did and they are great - would definitely recommend. Like a lot of trainers, they are on the smaller size so I would order half a size bigger. Lots of site have offers but best to find an online retailer with an easy return policy at the moment.

Nike have an online sale on at the moment. The returns policy is excellent.

Can only speak to my experience but I love my Decathlon trainers. Lightweight but spongey. When I bought in the shop they had descriptions so you could buy based on how much running you do and what you prioritised in a shoe which was good.

I’ve just ordered a new pair from Sportsshoes.com because they had the best selection. I’ve gone for Asics as I’ve had them before & been pleased with them plus I knew what size to order.

You’d be better Googling wide running shoes. I think brooks ghost are. Also always size up for running shoes or you’ll lose toenails 🤣
