Do not worry about distance at this stage, your only goal is to get to 30 minutes. When we complete this plan, most of us are running somewhere around 1.5-2 miles in that time.

The key to progressing is consolidation. Get used to running 30 minutes three times a week (it doesn't have to be 30 minutes each run, mix it up a bit to keep it interesting) for a few weeks, then just slowly increase the time/distance you run on one of your three runs.

What worked for me was to try slowly increasing in 5 minute/500m stages, but just find what works for you. Using that approach, I took myself slowly from 30 minutes to 5k (3.1 miles), and then all the way to Half Marathon.

Like all tasks, it just comes down to breaking it down into smaller, manageable chunks.

Please don't just go out and run 2 miles because you have got it into your head that you need to run two miles.

What you need to do is gently increase the demands on your body by carefully following the plan. This will cause your body to adapt by the process known as progressive overload. By following the plan you will be keeping your injury risk minimal.

Just run for the duration in each workout.
