Week 8 run 2

Tried this run yesterday and failed at the 15 minute mark having managed the same amount of time easily a couple of days before. I just felt so disappointed in myself for giving up and beat myself up about it for the rest of the day. At the 15 minute mark I lost control of my breathing and couldn’t get it back. Usually I just need to refocus on my breathing and push through till i regain control of it but this time panic just set in.

Luckily my fiancée could tell all I really needed was a bit of a kick up the bum and told me to stop being stupid as I was bound to have a bad run every now and then.

Woke up this morning and eventually convinced myself to go have another try. I really had to focus on my breathing and stopping panic setting in but once I was past the 20 minute mark I knew I could make the full 28 minutes and actually pushed in to 30 mins as I was still feeling good, within the 5 min warm up 30 min run and 5 min cool down I managed to reach 5k according to the treadmill, I prefer to believe my watch which said I’d done 6.2k but I think that might be a bit optimistic!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

Please stick to the plan. We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Enjoy your journey.
