Getting back into it

I whined a bit at the beginning of lockdown because my routine was shattered ( selfish and thoughtless, I know ) anyway this past seven days I have had a bit of a reset with 4 x 30 minute runs and 3 hikes. I did my measured hard hike and knocked a minute of my PB, did a 12 km hilly hike midweek which nearly killed me and I had to call the other half to come and collect me 😂 and on each successive 30 minute run I improved my pace a little bit, so all in all a good week. I think I’m going to do the same this coming week and keep consolidating on the 30 minute runs until I really find my comfy pace and take it from there. I feel a lot more positive than I did a week ago and I’m really enjoying the exercise again.

Happy running everyone

Tim

Hello Rigpig, I now usually go on bridge to 10k forum and realised that I have not seen posts from you or granny hugs recently. I hope you are keeping well. Hopefully will get back to normal routine soon.

I’m working on it, seems to be going well this last week 😊

Hi Rigpig wow you really are going for it. Well done on keeping things going during this strange time. Don't over do it! Take care and enjoy your exercise. 👍

Wow that's some amount of exercise you're doing! Good for you - you seem to have a good rhythm going - I've yet to find mine although I'm determined to finish the Magic 10 then I think I'll revert to shorter runs on a more regular basis. Who knows though? I started out wanting to be able to run 5k and now I'm on the 10k challenge! The regular runs though will keep me fit physically and mentally which was my main aim at the very beginning....all those months ago... 🤣

I was doing the Magic 10 and got up to 50 minutes but was finding it very hard, then all this happened and I lost my way for a bit so I have gone back to consolidating 30 minutes for a while. The hiking is stamina building and I really enjoy pushing just a bit more each time also I need to burn extra calories to compensate for some comfort eating during lockdown 😊

You’re putting me to shame Rigpig, I’m exhausted just thinking about 4x30 min runs in a week! Though maybe it’s what I need to do! Happy running!

I just seemed to lose my rhythm for a short while but it’s coming back now. It’s not easy but I need to be very disciplined with myself. I know how easy it is to go back to my old ways and I’m determined that’s not going to happen again 😊

This is great to hear mate. All this exercise and hiking will only equip you more for the running. When you look back it seems incredible you're at the standard you are now!

When you put it like that it seems quite good. I still want to do a lot more though. Nothing worth doing is easy I suppose! 👍

in reply toRigpig

Definitely. The fact you want to do more is great too. I have a saying 'I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way'

You are on your way.

Well done, that's a very impressive routine that you're doing.

I can imagine that the hiking is great for building up stamina, and great too to mix up your training a bit.

It’s strange because it actually gets my heart going a lot harder than the running but I enjoy it a lot more. I have a set route with a fairly steep incline and try to beat my PB each time. When I started it took me an hour with 3 stops, I can power it in 34 minutes now. I think it’s shaving off a few seconds each time that really motivates me 😀

That's very interesting to hear the exercises we can do to compliment and help our running. This sounds like a fun and great one to do in it's own right, well done on getting your time down so much too.

Glad to hear from you. Take care but keep going seems to be a good motto for the moment. 😄👍

Good to know you are running and feeling more positive again, we all just have to get through this whichever way we can and getting our for a run is one of the real pleasures

I can’t go out at all as I’m in the high risk category. I struggle to find motivation to exercise at home, but I’ve tried various things, the latest being skipping, or jump rope as the pro’s call it!

Enjoy your runs and hikes, they sound great 👍😁

Skipping is good, many moons ago I used to be an amateur boxer and did a lot of skipping, certainly gets the heart going if you get right into it 🙂
