Hi. It does get better! Read the guide to 5k posted by IannodaTruffe; it is invaluable and full of advice to keep you on track and running safely all the way to graduation.
Make sure you drink plenty water, on both run and rest days (2-3 litres/day is recommended) and ensure you stretch after each run. Both hydration and stretching properly will help to fend off the aches, but remember you are building new running legs and a few sore muscles is perfectly normal. Good luck!
I have also just completed run 2 of week 1, I seem to really struggle with breathing. I don’t think I have run since school along time ago and never in my life thought I would. I hope it gets easier
Glad to hear there is others the same as me ! I use to run many years ago but for the last 5 years I’ve done barely anything , I remember getting so much better at running quite quickly but I was much fitter then . Carry on , don’t give up ! I also struggle with the breathing but it does get easier I remember from before ! We can do this !!
we were meant to be going away for ivf abroad but due to all this going on in the world it has been postponed and our first time last year failed so I am determined to get fitter and healthier for when we can go back. It’s the breathing that’s the worst thing for me, just seem to struggle but I will keep going.
That’s an amazing focus ! Use that to continue , fingers crossed for you , the breathing I struggle with also but for the first week I can manage only by knowing that I have to run for 1 minute ! That’s what gets me through ! Give me strength for the longer running times , my main issue at present it the ache in my legs and knee , it can only get better and easier for us !
It gets better, and then better, and then just awesome!
Great job out there... your muscles are wondering what the heck is going on... they hurt, and then they have to prepare just in case you try to do this to them again... so they start repairing and strengthening... that you’ll feel as achy legs... it’s normal. These pains reduce over time... some don’t have them by the end of the plan, but they will at least reduce. Now I only ever feel any aching if I’ve been on a speed session, or sometimes on my long run... so basically when I’ve pushed my limits.
Keep your legs moving when you’re not running... avoid sitting for long periods.. get up and move, shake it out, dance... whatever it takes... some movement will increase the blood flow to those muscles, giving them the oxygen and nutrients they need to get you ready for next time.
Enjoy run 3.
