I have just come off night shifts and woke up silly early so at 1130 whilst laying in bed I had 2 choices continue to loaf and stay in bed or get out for my first week 2 Run.
The decision wasn't difficult I got up and went for it.
I have found myself watching other runners whilst out and about and self analysing my first couple of runs. I could now see I was still running a little too fast so today I slowed it down even further and it felt great my breathing was under control and I know distance isn't everything but achieved just over 4 km. Calves are a bit tight still and a little so lots of stretching over the next couple of days.
But the most important thing is I'm still smiling.
Don't get too hung up on distance because you may well have to pace yourself as longer runs come along and then you may not cover so much ground.
I suspect, compared to many on here, you are young and relatively fit, but the slow and steady route to basic stamina really does work and then you can build speed much more safely, later on.
Lol. I wouldn't say young and fit but on a journey to a fitter and healthier life. I want to be able to run round after the children and not be left behind.
My healthier journey started last April since I have lost over 3 stone and feel so happy and in a great place. I've always been able to cycle but really wanted to start running.
I've found this group so good and getting lots of motivation from it.
You are right distance isn't everything and that has been a realisation over the last few days whilst watching other.
That's great, well done. Your self analysis compared with other runners made me chuckle (although you were obviously discerning and learned a good lesson) For me, in that situation, there was only one thought:
