The Darkness got this mornings run underway with Black Shuck. It wasn't quite dark though, the sun had risen and the local fells are looking appealing - but I can't get up them due to this lockdown that we're all enduring. It's so frustrating for me.
The past couple of weeks seem to have been all about PBs for me - it's a good sign that I'm improving. Today, I did:
My fastest 1K - 6:46
My fastest 1mi - 10:55
My fastest 2mi - 23:43
The furthest I've ever run - 2.34mi
I'm quite chuffed with those PBs but know this isn't all about speed - the PBs weren't intentional, they just happened. This plan is all about improving my stamina. And, with that, the speed comes along naturally. Eight week ago, my fastest mile would have been in the region of 18 minutes lol.
Today, I chose a different route having scouted it out yesterday while walking my dog. The first section of the run was downhill, which meant that the second was uphill. Overall, 105ft was climbed - and it really hurt my legs on some steep parts - but I stuck to it and was pleased with myself to have achieved what would have been impossible a few weeks ago.
The human body is amazing in being able to adapt. I've learned more about myself during this training than I have over my 52 years - if the mind is willing, anything is possible.
