Had most of the week off with feeling a little under the weather, and now I’m really annoyed at myself. I haven’t even been to the gym or done any strength training instead, and I was in bed all day on Monday, feel like I’ve been really lazy.
I can’t help but feel like my next run is going to be a real struggle, and my progress will have gone backwards. So cross at myself!
Stop beating yourself up at once (very bossy). You have been unwell and did the right thing by allowing your body to recover. What we can do now is look forward. Yes, your body may have little moan when pushed but start with some lovely stretching to remind it what it can do. Your brain will not forget what you have achieved and therefore even if you have to repeat any week of the programme it now knows you can do it (secret ability you hadn't got last time).
So take care this week - be kind to yourself and keep posting.
Thanks so much Nilsam, your support on here has been amazing 😊
You’re so right, I did go for a run yesterday, did lots of stretching and a bit of yoga before I went out to ease myself into it and took it super slow, managed a good run and tried to focus on being compassionate to myself as I ran, rather than “punishing” myself for not running.
Thanks again for your reply, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it x
You need totake care of yourself when you're not well! You will get back into your running. If you start pressurising yourself too much then the whole thing becomes stressful.
Chill out and plan your run soon. You won't have lost fitness in a week.
Thank you @roxdog. Do you find that sometimes you really want to run and other you feel like your forcing yourself to go out? Sometimes I just find even the thought of it exhausting. I’m still new to it so I’m trying to learn to tell myself positive things (like you say I won’t loose fitness in a week!) before I go. I really, really appreciate you taking the time to reply, thank you so much. It honestly helps my gremlins so much!
Be kind to yourself, you'll just get even more frustrated if you try to run when you're ill. Also, you don't tend to start losing fitness gains for at least two weeks.
Thank you @speedy60! I didn’t know that about the 2 weeks thing, I did manage a run yesterday even tho I took it very steady, and I do think the body remembers what my mind forgets, that I can do it! Thanks again
Don’t beat yourself up. I also haven’t ran since last Saturday due to work/laziness/illness. Sometimes it’s nice to just have a rest. I went for a 5km run this afternoon and really enjoyed it. If anything my body felt better, no aches or pains... perhaps felt more tired after the break but it was all good!
Get out there and have a little run, no matter how big or small, you’ll feel better after ☺️
Well done on your run too @sar9! I was the same this week, partially illness, partially work, partially laziness! I found it slightly tougher than I have been but as you say I really enjoyed it when I finally got out there, the fresh air and sun now we’ve had a slight reprieve from all the bad weather has really helped. Thanks so much for your support 😚 hope you’re feeling better and have a great weekend x
