I’m on week 2 and especially in this weather what is best to wear? I’ve been going out in a coat but think it’s too restrictive
What to wear ?! : I’m on week 2 and especially... - Couch to 5K
What to wear ?!
A coat? I’m impressed you got the job done!
Not sure of the centigrade here, but apparently ideal distance running temperature is 45F which is about what it has been on many of my recent runs... so it’s been shorts and a shirt for me.
The rule of thumb is to dress for the temperature 10C above what it is... so if it’s 10 degrees that’s probably shorts and t-shirt time, and around 0 then an extra top layer, preferably one with long sleeves, and leggings/running tights would make sense.
The fabric is probably more important as you want any sweat to be wicked away rather than sitting on your skin... so cotton is out, as are some waterproof materials that don’t have very good ratings for letting moisture out.
You’ll probably find that the biggest issue is the warm up... once you’re running you’ll be generating your own warmth.
Well done for getting this far!
I would suggest a t shirt with a very light top layer you can take off. There are lots of fairly cheap, light 'running' clothes in the shops and online which don't make you sweat.
You might want a light hat on a really cold day.
I've been out in really cold weather and still been too hot!
Hi🤗 and welcome!
I started in some old joggers, but anything lose and comfy would do ( or leggings) On top was a decent bra 😜 and a t shirt, and an old zip up fleece ( phone in fleece pocket) As I’m sure you’re aware, you soon warm up, but try layering if you feel cold, ie t-shirt, warmer top, fleece/ jacket, then when you warm up you can tie your outer layer around your waist 👍
Good look 🍀🌶x
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Enjoy your journey.
I'm mainly running in clothes I had already. I run in the evening; unless it's very cold I wear a short-sleeved t-shirt, a hoody and jogging bottoms. If I get hot, I take off the hoody and tie it around my waist. If it's very cold, I wear a long-sleeved running top I bought from M&S instead of the t-shirt. I haven't invested in any 'proper' running gear yet, apart from my shoes. Maybe that's my treat when I finish the programme?
