Sorry I've not been around these last few days to support and encourage. It's been a bit manic and chaotic both at home and work. Not so bad that I couldn't run though π.
So what have I been learning?
1/ My brain cant be wired quite right - I was watching the rain lashing against the windows on the cold dark evening that was Monday. All I wanted to do was get out and run. I absolutely love running in those conditions. That cant be normal can it? How on earth will I manage on a warm summer day? Anyway it was a rest day, so no running. Instead I stayed home and looked after my faulty dog.
2/ I missed Brian - for those who have joined the gang recently, Brian is the name I give to my nemesis. A long steep hill that takes up the last 10 minutes of my run. I decided I needed to make friends with the hill and so gave it a name healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... But once I graduated, I changed to a new route with a long downhill finish.
Well, tonight i went and paid Brian a visit. And you know what, I really missed my old mate. The new route is easier, but it's too busy. Too many cars and too many people. So I think from now on, I'm going back to my old secluded, solitary route.
3/ The Fitbit Charge 3 is tough - now I know that you can wear the Fitbit Charge 3 when you go swimming, but you can take it for a spin too! No, I dont mean a spin class, I mean it can survive a 30 degree wash in a Hotpoint washing machine! How that happened, I have no idea
Well, thats all for now. Back to chaos and faulty dog.
Happy running everybody. And embrace that rain. You're only going to get in the shower afterwards anyway π

Good to hear from you RunningMigster, you are enjoying your running, no matter what the weather is, I certainly wouldn't have gone a run on Monday evening in those conditions.
Glad to hear youβve been keeping yourself busy Mig π Iβm with you on the rain; I get excited because it means I can wear my new waterproof jacket and feel smug that Iβm dry (on the top half at least) for my run. Thereβs nothing like that hot shower and cuppa after running in this icy cold wind and rain. What a treat π. Iβm glad youβve been re-acquainted with Brian too ππΌ
Poor Hudson hurt his back trying to jump up onto the bed. Vet thinks he might have an issue with a disc in his spine. He's much better today, but it's not the first time its happened
I agree with the running in the rain mantra, itβs so exhilarating! Though I could do without the muddy puddles. Sorry to hear about your dog - I have a stool by the bed so my two can get up there as theyβve only got short legs. Hope he gets better soon πΆ
I love the idea of giving your hill nemesis a name - there is one near me that I have yet to become acquainted with because she is just so big and I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet.... one day soon though....
I hope your pup is better soon - I dread the days my dog is under the weather - it is so hard to get motivated to run without her!
And I have never run in more than mild rain - where I am if it is heavy rain it is more than likely because there is a thunderstorm - and I'm not game to head out if there is lightning around!
A few runs back, it was dry when I set off, then some rain, then hail storm and for the second half of my run, warm sunshine. Honestly, I got so warm with the sun on my back, I'm already starting to fear the summer!
Yeah I run in the heat a lot (from necessity - not choice) - my advice would be to get a good hat, and find a shady route if possible. Or if you can, just get up crazy early before the sun is too high - that seems to work best for me!
Love your update....for reference iPods survive 40 degree wash and tumble dry!! No one was more surprised than I....proper heart sinking moment when folding the washing and realised Iβd left them tucked into my running leggings pocket!
Well done Mig for still managing to get out there. Hope things settle down soon.
I too also have a nemesis. Now you got me thinking I need to give him a name π€
Think think think..... Also any tips on conquering it apart from slowing down ? I have been running up and down stairs like a lunatic in the hope it will help me conquer my nemesis π
Tough call... every run is different. The hill takes up probably the last 10 mins of the run. So, for the 2 or 3 minutes until I get to it I tend to slow right down. Slower than my standard pace. Then I pick it up again as I get to the hill.
Some times though, it's still a case of grit teeth and push through π.
But, I'm still learning! I did try stretching out my stride in week 9, but my achilles wasnt very happy with me afterwards. Might just be that I need to keep trying that though.
Good to see you're still getting out there and also finding the time to amuse us with your thoughts afterwards mate, despite the chaos. Sorry to hear about Hudson's problems, I hope his problems can be sorted out with physio (we have a good one here who keeps our Russell on the straight & narrow). Dog children with problems are difficult to deal with, they can't tell you what and where it hurts can they? Our last Russell had hip problems in later years which meant we had to make him a step so he could get onto the bed. The last few months we took it in turns sleeping on an airbed with him on the sitting room floor. (Him spoilt? I wouldn't have said so...) . Keep on running & posting!
Great to read your post! Itβs funny that you mention summer running. I like the 3 degree weather and found myself worrying about when the warmer comes. Hey! Check me - Iβm obviously planning still to be running in the summer!!
My preferred route has virtually no pedestrian traffic too. I might see 2 other runners and maybe a cyclist along the way. So it's the solitude, combined with the dark and rain, make it a very soothing run.
