W6R1 - what have I learnt

I did it! My so called speed was slower than walking tree (Socratea exorrhiza), so I got overtaken by some rock, resting snail, and surprised sleeping tortoise. What I have learnt today?

- shuffling speed of growing pine is bigger than zero

- I can complete the run even if I barely move my legs

- I am stronger than I think

- My goal is not to graduate C25K (not yet), it is to create a habit of running 3x a week no matter what - no lame excuses.

- My dog has problem with locating me only by sound, without visual contact

- Under beautiful dry leaves laying on the grass, there are hidden "treasures" that you can slip on and then you need to clean your running shoes.

- 5min after run stretch is better than nothing

I count it as a very valuable run!

Happy running!

P.S. OK, the tree cannot really walk, but it was still faster than me today ;)

As long as you can outrun a trffid! No need to go faster 😸

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to Katnap

I am not so sure. Triffids can be fast, I assume. But I am probably more venomous :P

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate in reply to IgaT

I'd best not annoy too much then! 😸

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to Katnap

Hahaha, I didn't develop virtual venom. At least not yet.

More importantly, I am patient. Our should know it, I patiently survive 5 weeks of C25K :P

And survive with a smile 😸

I was terrified of that bloody program!

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate in reply to Jogunlikely

The old TV series.?

Better than the films and the recent 2 (or was it 3) part drama.

I like the way the triffids actually looked like giant pretty flowers.

They made a new version 😱 I only remember the 80's version with John Duttine - he went on to star in the much more child friendly Lame Ducks 😊

I hated the long whippy tounge things the triffids had urgh 😖 it used to keep me awake at night and i'd have to check my wardrobe to make sure none were hiding in the 😂

I was ickle too when the 80s TV series was on. But my mum always laughed at how ridiculous it seemed (to her) so I never found it too scary. But it was.

Do you pick routes that are flat-ish. Any uphill climb absolutely flaws me. Downhill fine.

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to chrisc25k

I would love to have a hill to see how it stops being a problem for me, but my area is quite flat. I have 1 invisible hill, which definitely is not a hill, but when you run you feel like it and one way is easier than other :P

I'll change!!!! :-D

Do you suggest an exchange program? :P

Why not? Our The Frýdlant battlements are waiting for you... :-D :P

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to lusmo

The Frýdlant? In Chech Republic? It looks beautiful over there and so close to my country :)

lusmo profile image
lusmoGraduate in reply to IgaT

Yes. exactly. But we live in Liberec. That's the same.. hill next to the hill ... ;-) I hate them when I have to run. :-D

Nature is nice around here, that's true. It does not matter which side you go to. Everywhere it's nice. And to the south is the so-called Bohemian Paradise :-)

But ... all the hills! :-(

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to lusmo

I imagine it is kind of nightmare for the beginner runner, but soon your body will adapt and you will treat hills as normal / easy part of your runs. Any football or rugby fields around there? Few flst streets to run back and forth?

lusmo profile image
lusmoGraduate in reply to IgaT

I do not care about the hills, but my legs hurt and my breath is short. That's why I run better in the sports area in circles rather. But even there it is not quite straight.

Now that we get into 20 or more minute runs. Nothing is so long and flat anywhere. 25 minutes are three circuits. Or hills ... :-)

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to lusmo

Alternate circuits and hills ;) Legs will get stronger. Short of breath - remember your first week? I bet you felt short of breath after less then 3 minutes of running and now - look at you - running 20-25 minutes!

Patience ;)

👍 It's just 25 minutes without walking that scares me now ;-).

I love it!

Big badass W6R1 lies slain by a stronger badass woman who can. Great job.

Speed can’t beat grit ever... while I admire the parkrunner who finishes first, the last person over the line gets my respect, they worked harder and went though more. Speed is over rated... and you’ll whoop that tree’s butt in a rematch 😂

Keep on loving it... you’re doing mighty fine.

Whether it is a 14 minute mile or 6 minute mile, or in like me yesterday an hour mile. It is still a mile!

I did kick the tree at the finish line with almost 1 minute of proper run that I squeezed out of me somehow. I knew I will be allowed to collapse after that, so I give it over 100%. Which left only 5 instead of 30 minutes of my power to stretch.

Hahaha! At least you didn't slip on the hidden treasures 🙊? Hope you and your running shoes have fully recovered x

It was very theatrical slide, but I kept my balance. Do not play in autumn leaves! It is a trick! Only children and dogs know how to pick the one without surprises.

Walking tree - I think I have found my spirit animal! Like you, I’m focusing on the habit of exercise three times a week 🚶‍♀️🌲

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to ItstheMarchHare

It may happen that while working on the habit, I will graduate. Which would be more than awesome.

This week I will have a big challenge, as I had to reschedule my runs. I had Monday, but the next runs will be Thursday and Saturday. Followed by regular Mon-Wed-Fri. Finger crossed that my today's blood donation won't leave me too weak.

You made me smile with this IgaT , running teaches us all sorts! I’m a firm believer that something good can come from most runs & it seems to be from yours, fab xx

IgaT profile image
IgaTGraduate in reply to Mummycav

Of course, each and every run brings us something, sometimes new and fresh sometimes not so new, hidden and word "fresh" should never come to mind :P

I'm happy that I made someone smile :) Next time I may try to make you laugh, although if you would see me running you would definitely roll on the floor laughing ;)

No chance...I’d run alongside you...I’d run a mile from that tree though, it’s freaking me out!!! 😵

Phoebe would look so normal when running next to me (us?) ;D

I'll talk to this tree and ask not to come close to you ;) But you should be safe, as it is based in Central America, mainly Costa Rica ;)
