I wont lie, even though I've been looking forward to the challenge of running none stop for 20 minutes, I've been a tad anxious about it too. So i spent most of today mentally preparing. Telling myself, just one foot in front of the other and keep doing it. Even if it gets really tough, stick it out.
So I got out there, and I had by far the best, most enjoyable (yes I did say 'enjoyable') run so far in C25k. I even smiled while I was running because it felt so comfortable. Not my fastest time, not my longest distance, but it just didnt matter.
Even the hill, my nemesis, didnt phase me. I positively attacked it and kicked its butt (it's up hill most of the way back)
So, if you read my last post I referred to the hill as a naughty boy that needs to be ignored. I've decided the hill needs a name, so I'm calling it Brian. It's not the messiah, it's just a very naughty boy (younger viewers might need your parents to explain that one π).
And as I came to my 5 minute cool down walk, into my ears starts playing Billy Joel - Big man on Mulberry Street. And good beat to 'strut' to and believe me, I strutted all the way home.
One foot in front of another, well done on that happy run that you have just ran, congratulations on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran ππΎ π
Always! They put life of Brian on the open air pop up cinema in Exeter and it was fantastic! Everyone was singing and shouting out the lines the whole way through! The roar of 'he's not the messiah, he' s a very naughty boy' was tremendous! I thoroughly recommend it if you see one on.
It really makes a huge difference. I enjoy feeling the benefits of running. Quicker recovery times, generally feeling fitter. But to enjoy the run too! Never expected that to happen
Strutted home with the biggest grin ever, I am sure!!! You will now know and feel like you are a runner! πGreat feeling, great achievement but the best still awaits you!! Enjoy the journey π
Brilliant. Getting up that mental and physical hill and smashing it is such a buzz π. And yes OH βdid the voiceβ and a good impression it was too. We laughed π€ ππ
Congrats on week 5 run 3, if you liked the 20 minute run then you'll love what's coming. Here's a simple mantra that you can use:
If I can run for 20 minutes, then I can run for 25,
If I can run for 25 minutes, then I can run for 28,
If I can run for 28 minutes, then I can run for 30,
If I can run for 30 minutes, then I can graduate.
You can change the numbers for whatever times you want, after my consolidation runs I changed the times for 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and then 60; at that point I stopped as I pretty much know I could continue plodding along at a slow pace beyond the 60 minutes.
Thanks for that note on the 60 - I was wondering about that the other day - I was feeling v proud of doing c25k/bridging etc then people kept telling me about marathons and at that point when I compared Km travelled to miles in a marathon I got a bit deflated - so it is the case that if you can 'run' 60 mins you can up the distance 'relatively' easily from there (as opposed to it becoming ever more/and increasingly difficult?)
Have been reading your posts as an encouragement over the passed few weeks. I had the same issue with a short hill at the end of the promenade where I run - have been avoiding it... yesterday though, I ran/plodded up it...(wasnβt pretty) but I didnβt stop. Well chuffed.
Well done! Brian is probably 8 minutes of my 20 minute run. On this particular run, because I was mentally more than prepared, I might as well have been running on the flat. But on other days, when I'm just not in the right frame of mind, it's like trying to run through a stream of chewing gum.
I remember this run being sadistically enjoyable as well. It made me wonder what other tortures I'd get a kick out of. Turns out it's yes to candle wax and listening to country and western, and no to gimp suits and Brussel sprouts.
