W7R3 and failed!

For the first time ever I had to cut my run short. I only managed 15 minutes and stopped. I just felt rubbish. I’m exhausted from the last few nights not getting much sleep.

I kept walking until my time was up. I’m going to repeat the run on Saturday. So disappointed in myself.

I won’t give up though. 😔

As people on here will tell you a fail is a run not even attempted , but you did.

Not all runs go to plan sometimes there's no reason sometimes there is like your lack of sleep.

Take a rest day then when you try again you'll be fine. Good luck 😊😊

You got out there and ran, that’s certainly not a fail we all have rubbish runs but as long as we go out we are a success

My new year run was horrible, i dropped and smashed my phone and my calf hurt so it was very short but we went out and that’s the good bit, some runs are fabulous some runs are rubbish, the next one for you can only be better so good luck

Whoah!!!!! Where is my soap????? There is no such word as the f word on here....you have had a practice run, that’s all...lack of sleep can make all the difference I promise...but you sound determined, there is nothing wrong with repeating weeks, I was stuck on, I think, week 4 for yonks and then I found this forum who willed me to move on and I did..and that’s what I want you to do...just because the programme says 9 weeks doesn’t mean you can’t take longer, lots of us do...

Bag the stamina and the mileage and do that run again taking that out with you x

It's so common to have a bum run somewhere in those last three weeks and it is a really useful experience to get under your belt as you embed running into your life. Bad runs happen, and happen to all of us.

In your case, you've got a pretty clear reason (sometimes there's no discernable reason) Hope you get some decent sleep and enjoy your run on Saturday!

Thank you that’s made me feel better about it. I do need a good nights sleep.

Don’t feel bad about this! Everybody has bad days sometimes, and lack of sleep makes EVERYTHING harder. So despite lack of sleep, you a) still got out there and had a go, and b) you kept walking till the time was up. That’s no fail! Have a rest, hopefully get some more sleep, then go at it again on Saturday. We’re all cheering you on - be proud of yourself for how you’re doing!

Well I think you've been well and truly told off now 🤣🤣🤣.

If you get off your bum and start a run, it doesnt count as a fail, just a practice.

Trust me, I've started a day so exhausted that I've know already that there would be no way I could go out and run at the end of the day. So I just opt for an extra rest day.

I think you've done great. You knew you were struggling before you got out there and you still gave it a shot. That's true determination right there and you should be applauded for that.

Now just take that extra rest day, regroup, mentally prepare and go again. You'll nail it next time!

You are doing awesome.....just a practice for the next run!!! Rubbish runs happen.....if you don’t get out and go you’ll never experience one....not going at all always worse. You’ve just experienced your next learning step of running....what feels like a poop run but pick yourself up and on to the next one....lesson learnt. Don’t dwell, defo don’t beat yourself up and let us know how the next one goes. You are doing awesome!!

Thanks I will do just that. 🙂

I think I’ve been a bit scared to not complete a run, incase I used it as an excuse to stop all together. That’s just not the case. I will run again on Saturday. Thanks for your support.

Sometimes you learn more by reading these posts backwards! No, not literally but I think your last comment: I won’t give up though. 😔 just says it all, well done. I've had a bit of an off/on relationship with C25K which has resulted in a n umber of practice runs and although I admit that I've been downhearted when this has happened, I've always learned something from them, so the outing was still of great use to me. Blimey, if you've not been sleeping well lately no wonder you hadn't got enough zip in you to push through it. You did get out there and give it a go though which is the main thing. As the others have said, make the most of your rest days and get back out again when you can. For me a lot of the battle with C25K is mental, believing that I can do it. I'd suggest that if you run out of steam again next time, why not drop back to a run from a week or so before? W6 R2 has a couple of 10 minute for example, you know that you can do this, you've been there before. Hopefully you will find that easy and this will rebuild your confidence (once you've had some sleep!). God luck & keep on keeping on.

That sounds like good advice. I’m going to try 25 again as I know I can do it but also keep in mind that dropping back a week or so isn’t a fail. Thanks 😊

I'll keep this short.

Lack of sleep AND this time of year. Dark days, christmas and new year I think can lead to energy.

Nov and beginning of Dec I did 4 PR PBs. The next 2 were slower and the last a week ago I had to stop twice.

Just keep to the program (slowly) and repeat if not happy with a run.

No such thing as a bad run.

I can totally relate! The second part of December was difficult for me too. For me it was a mixture of stress as worrying about assignment for uni, 2 night shifts at work I was not used to doing, viral infection mid-Dec, poor diet and overeating at christmas... it all adds up.

I decided to focus on recovering this week and do some yoga instead, and back to running from next week.

I believe we need to keep trying but also recognise when we need to take things easier and charge our batteries.

Starburst1208 profile image
Starburst1208Graduate in reply toTrawa

Yes I agree. I was going to try again tonight but have decided to leave it until tomorrow and not give myself a hard time. I also want to make sure that I’m not letting myself off the hook completely. Good luck with getting back to the running and enjoy the yoga. 🙂

Oh poor you, I can imagine how disappointed you must feel but I'm sure we have all experienced set backs like this at some stage. Most important is your determination to not let this stop your journey...it is a hurdle but not the end of the road :-)
