Blimey! It WAS hard to start today. Legs felt leaden and sluggish. But “sod it!” I thought. I wasn’t going to let this old bod get beaten by a run I’d already done three times before. So off I shuffled, much slower than my buddies, much to my chagrin. However, I have learned the lesson that slow and steady wins the race.
I had Foxtrot by Genesis blasting in my ears, and concentrated on that, reliving my teens when I first bought the vinyl. Suddenly, Jo piped up, telling me I’d run for twelve and a half minutes. Cool! I noticed that my pace was steady now, and I was beginning to catch up and stay with my buddies. I was really hot, as the sun (yes, the sun! 😱) had come out, and I was wearing a long sleeved top (bad move).
Next thing I knew, Jo was telling me I had just five minutes left, then, very quickly, it seemed, just sixty seconds! I managed to summon up some extra energy for probably the last forty seconds, then it was over!
According to my Fitbit, I ran 3.01 km at a pace of 8’33”, one second faster than Wednesday. However, because I was faffing around setting my Fitbit and C25K app, I walked for the first few seconds, so, my time was probably even faster than that stated. Whoop whoop!
During the course of three runs this week, I have shaved off seven seconds from my time, and increased my distance by ten metres. Not bad for someone who thought they were dying, trying to run for sixty seconds, just a few weeks ago!
Watch out Week 8! I’m coming for you! 🤨
