WARNING - you may go faster out the gate after a rest

Went out for my proper 1st run since my leg surgery (nothing drastic). They said give it 2 weeks and yesterday was 4 weeks+ - I did go for a gentle walk with a little bit of a jog last week. Well I decided I would go and see what it would be like as last week I felt the are operated on stretch a bit (not painful at all but concerning). A good 8 minute warm up and of I went at a slower plod or so I thought, mymaprun disagreed and I found I was doing the same speed as before even though I mentally decided to go slower. I even finished the 5K in 30 mins which was a surprise. So, the warning is be careful when you start running again after any break as you may just fall back into the routine easier than you thought 😁

Well done, Astra5, sounds like a great return to running! Glad to hear that your op went well, seems like there's always something to get in the way of our runs but the great news is that the runs wait for us! ☺

Thanks, happened a couple of times since I started C25K and later but luckily easy to fall back into it. Hope your running is going well, have a nice Chrimbo, I might pop on a πŸŽ…πŸΌ hat and have a 25th morning run so I am out of the way πŸ€ͺ

I will be popping on my πŸŽ… hat for Parkrun this Saturday, no running for me on the 25th, possibly a little trot on Boxing Day. Have a great Christmas.

I have found this and many of my pbs have come after a break of a week or more.

I believe we become unfamiliar with our gentle pace and tend to push a bit harder.

Pace was not in my mind, I slowed down once I realised. Main objective was to get back running following the leg op. Think I will be back out again tomorrow though 😎
