I set off way, way too fast, although I didnt realise it at the time. The result was that even though the first 1k was fast, I paid for it in every minute thereafter.
Still it's done. Couple of days rest now and then onto week 9!!! I'm running home for Christmas
Happy running folks

🤣🤣🤣 well now I hope you added that to your playlist!!
Well done for getting out there and completing week 8 🎉🎉 Nearly at the end ( well end of this bit) keep up the good work won’t be long now 😁😁😁🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
You should have carried on running.. When I hit to w8 r1 I didn't want to stop at 28mins, so I carried on until 5k. 34mins I ran for.. From then on I just ran 5k for the rest of w8 and w9. Fastest 5k is 32mins so far. Keep it up.. 👍
I have to say, before I started this program, I was really worried about my blood pressure. It's still a little higher than I'd like, but its dropped significantly. It's got to be down to the running.
Everything’s dropped for us, blood pressure, cholesterol, waist sizes lol and none of it was high to start with, but we are so pleased we kept it up and i’m glad you are too
Don't worry Mig I had one of those runs yesterday , set off way to fast and like you say you then feel it through the whole run. But your determination got you through. Well done you 😊😊
It's the tight Yorkshireman in me Buddy. When I was at the point of really wanting to stop I just thought to myself 'I'm not wasting 22 minutes of running by not finishing now'. So I just knuckled down and got to the end. 😆🏃♂️
Yes, starting slowly makes such a difference for me. I have felt much better about it psychologically since discovering my gazelle daughter starts at a similar very gentle speed. 😄 If it’s good enough for a gazelle, it’s good enough for a snail right? 😄😂
It didn’t matter that you were too fast what you’ve proved is you have the ability to finish what you startEd. Well bone, hope you’ll be singing running home as you run your final week, that would keep the pace down. 🎶🎵🎶
Hope you don't live too far. You are nearly there now, you need to plan your victory run/week and some celebrations after. All very important part of running
Champagne sounds good and necessary. I think see what the weather is like and if anyone can meet you after to share the champagne... You could do it at a park run and walk the end, there is bound to be some cake there and people to wish you well...
Looking forward to the full report and the graduation photo.
Well done you! 😃 I did the same run today and found it really hard, too, although I went snail like as usual. Sometimes I think I'm just too much of a coward to speed up, fearing that I would definitely give up if I overdid it in the beginning. So, well done again, you're a winner!
I usually have more control. First and last splits are the faster and middle two a fair bit slower. But today, my first was out of control and ever split afterwards just got slower and slower
Well done on completing week 8 and good luck for next week. I've really enjoyed reading your posts over the last few weeks, you epitomise everything this programme stands for. I know everyone has their own way of running but if it helps.. each km I run is faster than the last so start off slowly and build up, and always feel strong at the end of a run.. but then I am paranoid about having to stop so make sure I've got plenty left!!
Well done Migs, you've made it to the Simply Comes Running Finals! Only 3 more runs to go, you'll have this cracked and a nice shiny new graduation badge for Christmas. Selfishly I'm going to miss your posts every couple of days or so, I'll have to use that as one of my incentives for the New Year when I re-start, post regularly myself so that you reply. Enjoy your rest days and keep looking at that bottle of fizz, it's going to taste lovely and will have been well earned mate, well done again.
Awww thank you so much. You have been a real source of encouragement and support. Not just for me, but for everyone here. I look forward to seeing your regular posts again!
Yep that's what I did to, was aching all day as well.
Starting week 9 tomorrow, so will try 🥴 to slow down, need my running buddy back!!
Can't sing for a toffee, but definitely be singing after I've finished this.
I’m on the same schedule. Coming into wk 9 and feeling all kinds of things - relief, accomplishment, a bit sad. Hopefully I can continue to challenge myself. As far as pace I have been reading that it helps to use a metronome app. I haven’t tried it yet but intend to. Best wishes to you!
Fantastic you got to this week . I’m on week 9 r1 too and I can’t believe it ! This program is incredible , there’s no way I could have done this on my own!
I love the structure of it. That and the support on here. I'm blessed with a very supportive wife, but we both need the welcome advice on here to get us through too!
I started in September and am also about to embark upon Week 9 too which is a huge achievement for me in itself!. For a long time I have always had the desire to run as a way to escape a busy work life and find different ways to relax but ironically due to working long hours & the stresses of work I had a couple of failed attempts with a beginners running group but gave up. The main reason for not continuing was due to work taking over but also due to me feeling unable to keep up with the running group which left me feeling pretty despondent about the whole thing and that maybe running just wasn't for me. Having left my job at the end of July and deciding to review my future career path I had the perfect opportunity to start the Couch to 5K. I had seen an old school friend had recently completed it so I reached out to see what app she used & if she had any tips/advice. I have developed a love of walking in the past couple of years and love the feeling of exercising outdoors rather than in a gym although I have always loved group classes for the social element. Being able to run has the benefit of being flexible so that you can fit it in to suit your plans, is free which is a bonus when you are looking for work and is also something which you can do alone or with others. There have been days when I haven't felt like running but have pushed myself to do it as I know how good I will feel afterwards. One I graduate my goal is to be able to participate in local park runs and also join the runs with the running group I had tried previously as I will then have confidence in my ability to run. One of my good friends also started her Couch To 5K journey the same day as me and my hope is that once she graduates we will be able to arrange to have the odd run together. Here's to graduating before xmas and looking forward to running into 2020
