SO... here's what's been going on with me since graduating from C25K just over a year ago.
26th October 2018: completed C25K (with additional minutes built in so I was actually reaching 5K)
November 2018: kept up the running, did a few Parkruns as well
22nd November, 2018: broke my toe (ouch) in a domestic mishap, and had to stop running
February 2019: toe now OK, fitness all gone down the drain, weather too rubbish to start running again
April 2019: recommenced C25K
June 2019: got to week 7 and there was a bout of terrible weather, so I decided to stay indoors till it got better
July 2019: became suddenly unwell and lost all my energy and stamina - could barely put one foot in front of the other, never mind running. Heart rate spiked at the slightest movement, and climbing a flight of stairs was a massive effort. Not to mention the fact that there was a massive heatwave, which was what I assumed was the cause of my symptoms.
1st August 2019: had abnormal ECG, spent 2 days in hospital, was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and spent two weeks on bed rest and a further 4 off work
November 2019: tentatively recommenced C25K at Week 3, realised I was finding it a lot easier this time and I had retained more fitness than I expected
6th December 2019: Quit the programme at the start of Week 7 because I am ALREADY BACK TO RUNNING 5K!
So hopefully that's it for my run of terrible luck, and my current goal is not to get injured or ill again, and actually have an opportunity to build on my fitness this time and maybe aim for longer distances and faster speeds.
Just wanted to post this hopefully as a source of inspiration to anyone else who may have suffered setbacks since they took up running. I've been told that my basic level of fitness (which was so much better than before I started running) was probably the reason I did not become sicker than I was, and was able (more or less) to walk around with a serious health condition for 3 weeks without actually collapsing.
