Although run 1 was tough,i managed it.However I only managed half the run this morning.I just couldn't carry on 😢 I was getting pain in the back of my ankles whilst running which went wen I walked? Also think I've got start of a cold so probably not helped.Feel bit peed off with myself, this is the first run where I've ended up walking the rest. Can anyone point me in right direction for warm up excersises to do before I go running?I'm thinking the 5min walk isn't enough now I'm running longer? Just a thought 🤔

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit down because of the run. Don’t worry, every run is a good one even if you didn’t finish it. We all have off days. Just wait until you feel better and repeat the run. In terms of warming up make sure you are walking at quite a fast pace and maybe just walk for 5 or 10 minutes before you start the app if you feel you need longer. Good luck and don’t give up!

Sorry to hear you’re p’d off but try not to be - yes it’s disappointing but as I’ve read previously there is no such thing as a bad run, just prep for your next!

We all have times when we have a better run than others and if you are feeling unwell then this may simply be the reason! As for your ankles, it may be worth getting it checked out - sounds similar to myself which I ignored for a bit and turned out to be achilles tendonitis (I’m not in anyway saying that’s what’s starting for you, only to be careful)

Also regarding your ‘bad’ run have you tried running as slowly as you can? You could look up Japanese slow running if you’ve not already done so?

As for exercises to do (& can only say from my ailment only) I was told by my physio to do heel drops to start with - stand on a step with the balls of your feet, rise up for a count of 2, then slowly lower for a count of 4 and repeat x10 twice a day. Personally I would go and seek professional advice from your Dr or a Physio first

Hope that gives you some help and good luck 🤗 x

No fail Dotty!!! You went out and ran a practice 8:2 for next time. REST & recover fully & keep well hydrated. Soak in Epsom Salts (magnesium).

It’s important to do a dynamic warm up before leaving home & stretching on your return when your body is still warm. I use a very simple app on my phone called RunnerStretch which gives you both. It’s also vital to start your run very slowly... 🐌 ..it can be tempting to run faster if you haven’t warmed up properly before hand.

Get better soon. W8 will wait! Hugs xx

Thank you ❤ Will defo look at this app I'm sure it will help x

Hey, getting out there and trying isn’t failing.

Have a look at the Japanese slow running technique on YouTube, it helped me a lot 🏃🏽‍♀️

Only "fail" is not getting off the couch :)

You did great actually :)

We all have "those" runs, especially in the early days. We are humans - not machines after all :)

Heck, recently a week after I finished a half marathon in good time I barely made 3k on a run before admitting to myself it just was not "working" for me that evening, so I simply stopped and walked home.

Two days later - a "that was relaxing" 10k :)

Slow, steady, at your own pace and time...that's not only what got us graduates through but what still is a great rule of thumb :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

You'd be feeling much crosser with yourself if you had kept running and made your ankle pain a lot worse. Don't be hard on yourself. ☺

As you can gather from the replies your run definitely wasn't a fail.

Sometimes your run just doesn't go the way you want it.

Also if you're feeling unwell maybe your body just didn't have the energy .

Take a few rest days and try again. You can do it. Well done and good luck 🤗🤗

Not a " fail" just "not yet a pass"!

Definitely not a fail ... I had a couple of "bad 'uns" last week, so after initially getting annoyed with myself I accepted that my run was going to be a brisk walk instead. So week 7 ended up being five sessions rather than three. Now on week 8 and feeling great. Work with your body ... even top athletes have bad days x
