I slept really badly last night (even though I am on my holidays). So badly that I watched The Game Changers on Netflix at 4am and then had a good think about it. Consequently when I woke up I really was too tired to run. I wanted to but knew if I went out and had to abandon I'd be mad about it so I let common sense prevail. The Game Changers made me think and I've decided to try and cut out as much meat as I can in my diet (difficult when you live with an avid carnivore) - I know already that I have Boeuf Bourgignon for dinner on Wednesday!π I also see by other's posts that mine are way too long so I'm going to try and cut them down to size π

CHANGING MY GAME
Check out a post about that program last week that will make you think carefully. Not putting you off but it was interesting. I'll search it out and link if I can find it, hopefully someone else can search link too
Every little helps! Always open to advice - thank you π
Found it dieteticallyspeaking.com/an...
I shall probably read it at 4 am tomorrow morning ππ©
There is a very long but comprehensive rebuttal of such debunking as this at Dr Garth Davis' blog proteinaholic.com/response-... focusing on Layne Norton's so-called debunking.
For instance it takes the argument that animal protein is somehow superior to plant protein to task. It also goes into the subject of cherry picking research! Very polite, fully researched article that I would recommend anyone to read.
Because it is lengthy Red Pill Vegan has created a youtube video of the blog post at youtube.com/watch?v=nHM1J2U.... So you can either watch or read.
If you want to hear it from the horse's mouth, that is James Wilks, a director of the film, as to why the above link to dieteticallyspeakingis a lot of nonsense then please check out this video
youtube.com/watch?v=s0zgNY_...
This is where Chris Kresser is taken to the cleaners for debunking the film on Joe Rogan on a prior episode.
The easiest point to understand which is made early on in this very long, but very educational video, is how the game changers film was certified by the Special Operations Medical Association as being factually correct. The Special Operations Medical Association are clearly not vegan advocates. All they want are for their personel to be very fit and very healthy and have minimum days off sick.
Otherwise James Wilks gets Chris Kresser to agree that Chris was wrong time and time again. Much of the same approach as Chris Kresser is posted at dieteticallyspeaking.
If you don't have time to listen to the whole podcast, the you can read some of the early text transcripted at podcastnotes.org/2019/12/06...
No, no, no! No post is ever too long! ππ»π€£ seriously, we come here for a read!!
I was an avid, and I mean _avid_ carnivore, you name it, I ate it and a lot of it raw... you couldn't pay me to eat a steak, pork chop or chicken breast now. (Yes, maybe if I was actually starving, but not if I could help it). That is just over a year ago.
I watched Forks over Knives and What the Health and I just couldn't see how I could put that into my body any more.
I love food. I Really Love food. I don't drink, smoke, do alcohol or drugs. All I have is Food, so it seemed a big step, but I still have really great food and loads of it (I mean loads, my portions are hugeπ€£) but it's all plant based now so I feel better internally and when I go through sheep fields ππ»π
Good luck with it π
Although I posted the original link criticising The Game Changers, I'm all in favour of cutting down on meat. I only eat it once a week now and it's made an enormous difference to my weight, mental alertness and digestion.
Having said that, each to our own. It's being able to make a properly informed decision that's important.
This is key; it's about taking responsibility for what we put in and actually making a choice rather than doing what we did before just cause that's what we did before ππ»
I would far rather someone say to me, yes, watched all that but I still choose to eat beef/ lamb etc rather than someone say, oh no, I'm not watching that because I'll never stop eating meat ππ»
None of what changed my mind is based on the animal cruelty aspects (that's a whole other can of worms and I'm not a big supporter of scare tactics), all was based on health and an amount of sustainability.
I also watched it on Saturday night. I am in support of cutting out meat, but that film was almost an advert. I found quite a few holes in in, but like I said, I will go meat free several days a week and see. Bean burrito will be a blessing! Just donβt believe everything you saw.........
Perhaps I'll maybe watch it again. I just know I want to feel more energetic, alert, strong at my age. I want to make the most of what I've got.
Go for it. I started off just cutting back then found I didn't miss meat at all and felt so much brighter. Remember though, it's perfectly possible to eat an appauling vegetarian diet, full of sugar, salt and processed food. Eat as wide a variety of different foods as possible; I made a point of trying new ingredients. It can take a bit more planning and prep but it's worth it.
Write as much as you want! No one minds long posts
I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat meat, seafood or poultry. I definitely feel a lot better since changing, so let me know if you have any questions about it at all. I've been about a 90% vegetarian for ages but officially only since June.
It's not for everyone. I started becoming vegetarian since I just don't like meat and it's taken me 20+ years to realise.
But, for sure, ask any questions you might have!
