DONE IT. Life-changing.

So. Back in March, my doc told me my long-term blood sugar (HbA1c) was at 79 (dangerously high) and that she’d have to put me on insulin. I asked for one last chance to bring it down. She said (accurately): “You said that last time”. “I mean it this time!” said I. “You said that last time, too.” Said she (again, accurately). She gave me one last chance. So, following that, I all but cut out non-complex carbs, minimised complex carbs, cut down the booze and - most importantly - started Couch to 5k. And today, I completed it. The last time I ran for more than a minute was when I was about 14, doing cross country at school, and I hated it. This, though, was brilliant. Three months ago, the idea of running for 30 minutes straight seemed like an impossibility. Now, I’ve just done that three times in a week. It wasn’t easy, but by cracky it was worth it. My HbA1C has plunged to 50 (Doc says that if I hit 40 at my next blood test, never mind insulin, we can talk about coming off some of my meds). I’ve lost over four kilos since March. AND I CAN RUN FOR 30 MINUTES. I’m a 58-year-old plodder. So I don’t cover 5k in that time - more like 4.4 - but that doesn’t matter. My pace is increasing all the time. I know because I’m on Strava, FFS. Anyway - I feel f***ing great. Best achievement for AGES. YAY ME. Can I have a medal, please?

Wow.. well done. What an achievement for yourself and a great example for others with blood sugar issues. I hope you can get that number down to 40 for your next test 🤞

Amazing! The program is indeed life changing, but you have to put in the effort, too. You’ve done this and changed your diet and lost a ton of weight. All fantastic achievements.

Plodding doesn’t matter as you know. Actually, 4.4 kilometres in 30 minutes isn’t exactly plodding! I can show you plodding 🤣

Huge congratulations to you 👏👏👏👍🏆🥇

Thats brilliant 👏 As a fellow diabetic (Type 1 tho), running is flippin great for blood sugar control. If you are on Facebook, there is a page called "Diabetic Running Heros" that you might want to look at.Congratulations 🎊🎊

You deserve an actual gold medal! BRAVO you!! This is exactly why C25K should be more widely known and should be actively prescribed. Yes, I genuinely believe people should get running shoes on the NHS - it would save an absolute fortune. Really well done.

Not only can you have a graduation badge, you can have a huge high five from me as well!

I am currently in the process of trying to reverse my type 2 diabetes and I'm making steady progress towards that goal. Good luck to both of us, and keep up your very good work. Well done 👍 👏 👍

Congratulations! As someone who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years ago and through a combination of diet and running (via c25k) brought my HbA1c down into the pre-diabetes range, where it has remained ever since, I know how life-changing the programme can be. All the best for your ongoing progress! 👏
