Advice about changing up my running routes on the Couch to 5K app! :-)

Hi everyone. I hope everyone's doing ok, or ok as possible with what's going on, and that this post reaches everyone ok too.

I'm new to the group, although I've been using the Couch to 5K app for a while now, as I just started week six yesterday.

I think it's going ok, even though it's definitely starting to get harder.

I've been trying not to panic when I've been looking at how much further I've got to run on the app as I go through the programme.

I was just posting to ask whether anyone's got any advice about how I can vary my running routes by any chance, as I'm always trying to think of where I can run to when I head out on each run.

I don't know if anyone's had the same problem before, as I think I've been running to most places around my area so far.

If anyone's got any advice about how I might be able to vary my running routes now that I'm further in to the programme I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for reading.

With lots of best wishes from Jonathan.

I’m a newbie here, only just starting W3 so I’m running the local lanes from home - it’s getting pretty monotonous but I know exactly what inclines are where, so I’m sticking with it a while. But I see from posts that several people drive to various places to run - I think this probably takes more motivation and effort than I have at the moment but it certainly opens up some different challenges and I will probably consider it in the future.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Ordnance Survey maps show footpaths, bridle paths, permissive paths as well as roads. I use an app called Maverick, which allows free access to all of the Explorer range of maps, primarily for walking, but also to find likely running routes when away from home.

Enjoy your journey.

Bing Maps has an Ordnance Survey map layer.

Streetmap has 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 OS maps. streetmap.co.uk/

In some areas, the mapping quality of OpenStreetMap exceeds that of the OS. openstreetmap.org/

I use the OSmaps app and pay an annual fee. Depends on where you are and what's around. Also on whether you would rather run off or on road. My choice is off as much as possible!
