Cold weather affecting my run??

Anyone else struggling with the gold weather? I'm on week 8 so I'm so close to the finish line, but my last 2 runs my chest has got very tight and towards the end, even in the walking cool down I struggle to control my breathing, I flew through week 6 and 7 and was quite comfortable, since the temperature has dropped its been a struggle!

It can be tricky... sometimes the air is so cold that it makes breathing an effort.. I and many of us have Buffs which we pull up over our mouths. it can help.

Warming up well, maybe taking a bit longer to acclimatise... may help too.. and taking it really gently, running in a slow and steady and relaxed way...

Interesting reading here..

Thanks for the advice its really helpful, I'm going to invest in a neck warmer, see how I go, I really don't want it to affect me so much that I lose the progress I've made!

Just make sure you are warm before you set out..you can always peel layers off..and take it gently...the good news us that winter running is really good for us! A Buff or similar is great..stops rain drips down the neck or snow!

Don't worry about losing progress if you have to take some extra days off then so be it, you won't lose any fitness you've gained, covering the mouth with a scarf/buff can help warm the cold air going onto the chest.

Well it was quite warm in Bournemouth today so I headed to the beach to do the first run of week 9, it was the slowest I've ever run and I'm still a good half mile off 5k even with the warm up and cool down walks.....but today I run for a whole 30 mins without stopping! Feel incredibly proud of myself, week 8 felt so difficult I was thinking of quitting but here I am, officially 1 run down and heading to graduation!

Don't worry about 5k at the moment, as you graduate just consolidate your 30 min runs, 5k will come as you keep at it..

It depends on how cold it is, if its a nice calm frosty morning with the temperature around 0C/32F that is OK for most people, but if it is very windy and the temperature is - 6C/23F running in that is not very pleasant at all, personally I can't see me running in that sort of temperature, there are specialist sports shops who sell winter clothing for runners
