Cold weather wear?

Hi all! I'm contemplating my first park run next weekend, but I don't know how to dress to run in cold weather. It's expected to be 3°C / 38°F and mostly sunny. Is that "normal wear but with a sweatshirt, and something warm to put on at the end"?

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom. :)

I bought one of these just last week (the guy's version) and it's my new favourite running top. So comfortable!

Hi, I walk to parkrun which warms me up nicely. I have a warm padded coat on for that which then keeps me from getting too cold as I walk home again. To actyally run in I wear a long sleeved top, similar to the one buddy has suggested, I also wear gloves too and then a buff a bit like a headband that covers my ears. It's tempting to want more clothes on for the few minutes before setting off but if you're anything like me I warm up so quickly so would regret setting off with more stuff on

Thank you! Sounds very sensible.

The key is layers rather than heavy garments so if you misjudge it you can take a layer off or put one on. Rule of thumb is to dress as if the temperature were 10 to 15 degrees warmer than it really is. 10 if you’re jogging easily, 15 if you’re going flat out for a PB. As you probably won’t want to push it at your first one, if it’s 3C dress as if it were 13.

Thanks! A thick sweatshirt it is then. :)

I’d rather do two thin layers. I never do thick. Sweatshirt cotton stuff holds onto sweat. You need technical running tops. Cheap as chips they are. Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, primark, etc etc. No need to spend much

A warm fleece or jacket for afterwards as you soon start to chill once you’ve stopped running, which is when sweat-wicking clothing comes into its own

I have lightweight run jackets which I will run in, over a technical tee shirt. Long sleeved if it’s really cold

Have fun! Park run is fab. Take some cash for a hot drink afterwards👍😃
