Wk2r2 loving it...but knee pain ☹️

Hi, just started this and even though I’ve always thought I hated running I have surprised myself by feeling so positive after each run so far. I look forward to the next run day which is something I thought I’d never say.

But this week my knees are really hurting, I took an extra day off between runs and am going super slow and drinking loads of water. Is it normal to have pain as my body adjusts to running or something I should worry about?

I really want to do this but feeling like maybe I can’t?

Great for now completing wk2r2. Sometimes your body need time to adjust to your new exercise. Are you stretching after EVERY run. Good luck 😊😊

Thanks, I am trying to stretch after but probably could do more. Not seen these knee stretches before so thanks for the link - I’ll give them a go 😊

All above is good advice. To add to that, when you stretch make sure you do not lock your knees, that can hyper extend the joint and causes a lot of pain. I get it a lot and the pain is mainly when I have cold muscles but wears off once I start moving a bit more. It is due to the little muscles that hold your knee in place being weaker as we tend to use our bigger muscles and not the smaller ones. Everyone is different, but I find they hurt more when kept still for long periods of time.

Rest but keep moving! And if it still hurts once you have been walking around a little then it maybe worth going to see someone to check them out for you and give you some exercises to strengthen them up.

Most people can and well done so far. I haven’t much to add to the advice given but Willow suffered with knees and we got him new trainers and insoles and it’s much better now, me i have special orthotic insoles which are expensive but means i can wear any type of running shoes as they hold my feet in the right position and long time knee pain completely went away

All the stretches etc are so important too but if you can get a gait analysis and see if you need insoles or new trainers

Thanks for all replies. I just completed run 3 of week 2 and stretched more before and after and went even slower and amazingly my knees feel better ( still achy but not as much pain)

I do hyper extend if I lock my legs so been more aware of that and might very well get my gait checked for more supportive shoes.

Today’s run is my only one without having to push a buggy so thinking maybe that makes a difference as well? Guess I’ll see on Tuesday!

Thanks again for all the tips x
