Well that was a challenge but I enjoyed it. I was slow this morning and it felt difficult but I felt good when I’d completed it! Could be imagining it but I had energy all day which was great. Thanks for all the amazing support on here ❤️
Week 2 Run 1: Well that was a challenge but I... - Couch to 5K
Week 2 Run 1
Great for completing wk2r1. Your not imagining it having energy all day is what running has done for me also. Well done you 😊😊
Slow is good, it helps build strength and stamina.
When you exercise your body uses a lot of energy, so in return it creates a larger amount of energy so that you can cope if you exercise again and to keep you going, it's a survival instinct that we all have, that's why you are feeling more energetic, plus you are becoming healthier and fitter.
Keep going you will feel better the more you do of it.
😀👍
I've noticed a massive difference in my recovery times and how good I feel afterwards when I compare wk1 r1 and wk2 r1.
Hoping that good after run feeling continues!
Great stuff, well done!
Well done SuzieMac , slow works, that's what we say, slow and steady...if you'd have set off like a whippet you might not be feeling so good? Great run
Well done for continuing your journey into Week 2. If you're like me, you will have just about got into your rhythm by the end of Week 1 and will have certainly learned that slowly is the way to go. Every time I start a new week & the longer runs that go with it I focus as hard as I can on going slowly to help me manage to run for the longer periods. As you say, the feelgood factor afterwards carries you on through the rest of the day at least (I go out for my runs very early in the morning). I think that this is partly physical, you're becoming fitter, so getting around is just so much easier, but I think there is also a great mental effect too. They say that exercise helps release endorphins (which are apparently feel good vitamins for your brain), but I also think that our own sense of achievement from doing the runs helps too. As you say, as we work through the C25K programme it not only improves our ability to run for longer, but it also speeds up our recovery time too (which I appreciate is connected). I'm no runner, but have played recreational squash once or twice a week for absolutely years. I've only just completed Week 3 but noticed after my squash game on Thursday evening that I recovered my composure and got my breath back much quicker than normal (maybe I should have played harder?).
That’s all so true and I’m with you on all of those points. I was feeling pretty cocky at the end of the first week and then felt like I was starting again on week 2, which obviously I was! 😕 All of the posts on here help tremendously though and I hope I’ll be able to pass on some advice of my own when I’ve completed the programme!!
