Well, I did it! I honestly didn't think it would be so hard to run for 1 minute at a time but I managed it and lived to tell the tale! At the moment I really can't see me running for a solid 30 minutes ever let alone in 9 weeks but after reading a lot of comments on here I am hoping to be proved wrong. I am 56 in December and need to do more than just the weekend walk/cycle (on an electric bike). Heart rate went to normal fairly quickly but I was so red and hot for ages after - is this normal?
Week 1 Run 1: Well, I did it! I honestly didn't... - Couch to 5K
Week 1 Run 1
I totally agree I had no idea how hard it would be....
Well done for completing your first run. I've never been a runner but think this course along with the support of the folks on here is going to help me to become one. I'm 63 and started C25K a few weeks ago. I had a couple of false starts initially, trying to run too quickly and then getting out of breath too soon was my biggest hurdle, but I finally got into a rhythm and managed to complete the three runs of W1 on Saturday. Today I went out and did W2R1 and won't lie and say it was easy, but the main thing (to me) is that I completed all of the 6 runs a staggering 50% longer in time than the 8 of week one. Hopefully I'll manage to complete the other two runs this week so that next week I'll find that I'm capable of running the two 3 minute (that's 180 whole seconds!) runs, but only time will tell on that one.
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and gives advice on pacing, which will make it easier
Your symptoms sound quite normal.
Enjoy your journey
Well done! I’m 59 and started last week and I’m enjoying it at the mo. Still can’t imagine myself running continuously for 5 mins, let alone 30, but hey ho we’ll see........
Well done! I am 64 and started C25K 7 weeks ago. I felt the same as you at the beginning. If you look back at my posts I was worried I would not be able to do the next stage and certainly could not envisage running for 30 minutes without a break. Now I am happy running 25 minutes non stop and looking forward to week 8. The trick seems to be take it slowly and run within yourself.
Great for getting started. It is hard to imagine running for 30 minutes but we all felt like that, just trust the plan it's amazing. Just go slow and slower again if needed and make sure you're drinking plenty water about 2-3 litres per day and not just on run days.
C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 😊😊
