Week 6 - Run 2 killed me!

Hi I have just come home after week 6 run 2. I am gutted because the second 10 minute run defeated me!!

Even in the first 10 minutes I struggled. I then started walking about 4 mins into second run and never really got going again.

My running partner was flying and she flew up a hill that we dread. I just couldn’t do any of it.

We are going to do Run 3 on Thursday. Should I try this run again tomorrow? 🙁Thanks!

Were you going too fast? Choose your speed and hills. Have faith in the program. Would you get a better confidence boost conquering this run or would you be able to ignore it, put it down to experience and just move on?

I personally think I would like to conquer it but my running partner wants to stick to the app. I’m feeling deflated I think I will walk the run tomorrow even. Thank you for your encouragement!

Running is easy if you just do a bit once, if you keep going out there you get good days and hard days, if it was me I would run the next run really slowly and see how you get on

Good luck

Thank you I really appreciate your comment... I think I might just have to do that my running partner wants to stick with the app!

If you feel you are struggling just slow down . Where you hydrated enough. Don't worry just look at it as a practice run. Have a rest day and try the run again. Good luck 😊

Thank you for you response! I think I need to try tomorrow but my friend wants to go on to run 3 on Thursday.

If you read posts on here you will know it's not recommended to run on consecutive days and not to move on to the next run until you've fully completed the previous. Good luck

I had a similar day I think it was week 5 run two. Nothing I could put down as a reason for it. Same as you started bad and got worse. I just rested ate well and hit the next one that went brill. Bad days happen I guess. Keep the faith 👍🏼

Thank you so much that is encouraging. I would like to try it again but my running partner wants to keep with the app.

No, you need the rest day, especially after a hard run. If your running buddy won't redo this run with you (running partners should be supportive too!) you could just try going on to the next, but if you struggled today you might struggle even more with no.3.

I would definitely discuss it with them and consider redoing this one. It could be you were tired or just a hard run and you might smash it next time...

Thank you for your advise ... I think I need to go walk the hills at least build up strength. Really not enjoying this now . Hopefully it will get better 🙁

This is probably the hardest part when doing the programme with someone else, especially if your fitness levels differ. In a group scenario the group leader ensures that all paces can enjoy the runs but with just 2 the slower one can feel dragged round and that's not a nice feeling.

It should be fun. Yes, it's tough at times and might feel hard but it should be empowering you, not making you feel badly.

I think the idea about finishing w6 on your own and coming together again for w7 is a good one.

Either that or have a good chat and get her to slow down a little.

At this stage ideally you don't want to actually walk the hills but there are techniques for going uphill that will help; take smaller, quicker steps and don't focus on the top, just keep seeing the pavement moving in front of your feet, so n long as its still moving you're getting there there. Don't expect to keep the same pace as on the flat, and don't try to take bigger steps thinking you'll get there faster, that way injury lies.

I'd def recommend repeating that one before moving on, but like others have said you shouldn't run on 3 consecutive days :/

Maybe your partner do run 3 on her own? You could do runs 2 and 3 (with rest days still) and then start week 7 together again?

For the record I didnt like week 6 either, it's a toughie! 7 was much better though :)
