Week 6 Run 2

Having arrived at the park I scoped out yesterday, I got out of the car at about 5.30 a.m. to find it wasnโ€™t as flat as I thought ๐Ÿ˜‚. Never mind, I thought, it will do me good! I had the added concern that I might actually get lost, so tried to be sensible and look round for a few markers. That done, put my music on to play (Led Zeppelin 4) and Michael appeared on cue! We were off! Struggled a bit to find a comfortable pace on the first 10 minute run due to the slopes; at one point I decided to go up an incline and head back towards the start, ended up going so slowly on the turn that I had trouble keeping going, but did NOT stop! The 3 minute walk was perhaps more welcome than usual! Then, off we went again. This time, I settled much better and found a pace that I liked, although Michael seemed to take a longer time than I expected to reach the halfway point; I thought heโ€™d gone AWOL to look round the park. Managed to pick it up a bit for the last 30 seconds and was rewarded for that with a better pace (for me ๐ŸŒ) of just over 10 sec/km. Another one in the bag - oh, Yessssss!

Well done Jools!

And thankfully Michael hadn't gone sightseeing! Are you going to stick with the park?

Thank you! Yes, Iโ€™ll stick with the park. Itโ€™s very pretty there, and Iโ€™ll just have to try and stick to the flattest parts; also itโ€™s less than 10 minutes from where Iโ€™m staying ๐Ÿ˜€

Well done! Looks like a lovely route, as long as you are careful with your footing seems like a good route to spice things up sometimes :)

Thanks! Yes, youโ€™re right - but Iโ€™m a creature of habit and find it difficult to change things ๐Ÿ˜€

Same, I just like sticking to what works for me! I tried another route week 4 or 5 and hated it but it definitely wasn't as pretty as yours, but I do need to find something to spice it up or I will end up getting bored of my route completely

Huge well done...nothing like a new route to shake things up!

Thanks, it will certainly shake things up on Run 3 ๐Ÿ˜‚

You soon realise that nothing is totally flat when you cycle or run :)

I live in the Norfolk fens and that is as close to flat as you can get - but Iโ€™m staying in Bucks which is the complete opposite๐Ÿ˜€

Good to hear !

Well done ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I think I need to find a different place to run , I'm fed up with the same area haha.

Sounds like it went well ! That's great, as you say another one in the bag .

It's getting closer ! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Thanks! Yes, it is. Every time I run, I remind myself of how far weโ€™ve come.๐Ÿ˜€

It's great isn't it !

I keep remembering week 1 run 1 being a killer ๐Ÿ˜‚

I barely made it, but of course found out after that I was trying to run far too quickly ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, I guess most if us did that ๐Ÿ˜‚

Set off like a whippit thinking how hard can this be ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I did think exactly that ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well done you .... changing your route and not knowing the territory can be a huge distraction but you got through it and a good time too !

Well sorted and ready for R3 I suggest .... so what will the music of choice be for R3?? ... AC/DC? Deep Purple? More Pink Floyd?

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply to PlymBorn

Thanks! Oooh, I like both. It needs careful thought! I need to get lost in the music, it really helps my running. I think maybe more Pink Floyd ๐Ÿ˜€ as I know the music so well! Iโ€™ve got a rest day to decide ......

Well done, Julia. Another in the bag. 25 minuter next and youโ€™ll have no issue with it.

My pace is still well belong the 5km in 30mins; in fact it is very much in the 40 min mark. But, Iโ€™m definitely concentrating on time and hoping the pace will come with practice!

Awesome job.

Thanks, Matt; Iโ€™m not worried about pace just yet, more amused by how slow I am! It will come.

Smashing it Julia...love the photo!.... 530am too! Wowee!

I thought the same - he disappeared for longer than i would like... and just as I thought he had gone missing in action he returned

You're doing so well.. and you are so adventurous!.... Love your posts and love to watch your progress - keep going :-)

Yes, still waking up too early! Thank you, Jane. Can you see the slopes in that photo? How could I ever have thought it was flat. Darenโ€™t run on the road again, my shin was aching after my run on Saturday. Do not want shin splints, oh no! Seems better today. Iโ€™ll just have to run on the flattest bits of that park! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Thatโ€™s me too! I donโ€™t pound the pavements... not sure my knees could take it.. I do think the grass softens the landing a little bit...

youโ€™re doing fantastic!... I ran a few inclines on Sunday, inspired by you!...

keep going... Grassy flat places ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Proud of you

Itโ€™s funny, though - my pace was definitely better on the road! I like to think Iโ€™ve inspired you with the inclines โ˜บ๏ธ
