Running shoes on a budget

Can anyone recommend a decent pair of running shoes for those of us occasional short distance runners (<5k) on a tight budget?

I get that it’s important to get the right shoes and it’s worth the investment etc just looking for something decent for grass/field running for £50-£100. Maximum distance would be 5k but likely more 1-3km for now.

That's some 'tight budget' if your range is £50-100! ;-) If you're willing to pay that much, then your choice is wide.

You say grass/field running - in which case you'll want 'trail' shoes. Made for outdoor terrain.

Try lots of different pairs on a local running shop. If you're happy to buy at the upper end of your budget then the shop will have lots of choice. At the lower end, probably not so much and you'll be best looking online (Amazon, StartFitness, SportsShoes.com etc) .

Otherwise, the Karrimor range by SportsDirect are considered a good 1st-timer, budget (£30-50) shoe.

Good luck!

Thanks - £30-£50 is more what I’m looking at but thought that might be too low. I’ll check out those recommendations.

The shoe that's right for me may not be right for you. What I did was bought last year's model of shoe as the one just out can be very expensive. Good luck 😊

Check out sales online on official sites... I got a pair of Brooks for only £68. I did the online gait thing and they recommended Revel 2, which are now being replaced by Revel 3 so... Normally they would be over a 100 quid! Plus I love them! 😁

Hey so yes I would agree to get analysis done and what's right for you may be different.

I actually get on really great with the Karrimor Duma trainer you can get from Sports Direct for £20-30. I will be getting proper analysis done once I graduate and treat myself to a "proper" pair but I have 4 pairs of the Duma in different colours and they've been great.

They wear out a bit faster but I started in a grey pair that I had from 2 years ago that I do lots of walking in and by Week 3 I was getting shin splints in my right shin. Got a brand new pair of the same shoes (new colour) and shin splints were gone woohoo...

I bought exceptionally comfortable ASICS from Sports Direct within that budget plus Karrimor running socks!

This might help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I have had a couple of pairs of Karrimor trail shoes and while the first pair were reasonable, the second pair fell apart in a very short time. I will not buy that brand again and believe they are a false economy.

Pay more, buy once.

I loved the karrimor Tempo - road and trail Had them for yonks 🙂

You can go to a proper running shop, have your gait analysed and still come away with a bargain Don’t be nervous to ask for older models ! They will doubtless have them

If you can get to local races there’s usually bargains to be had as running shops often sponsor events and take along lots of bargains. My fave shoes of all time we’re £28 🙂. I save them for race day as I can’t find another pair

Lidl sell running shoes for about £15. I was impressed just how posh they looked. I haven’t run in them so can’t vouch for them personally

So, there are bargains to be had happy shopping 👍😃

karrimore are good (often under £30 in sports direct) but remember to buy bigger than you think you need.

I love my waterproof Karrimor trail shoes and now I know they fit me I intend to buy the same again online. Great for wet grass, not so good on the road.
