As those who tuned in to the earlier broadcast will know, I wussed out of my usual early morning run on account of much thunder, lightning and heavy, heavy rain. This necessitated the need to run in the evening once small people had been encouraged into their beds.
Lots of things to reflect on:
1) My energy is definitely more in the morning
2) But I quite enjoyed being out with the evening buzz
3) I took it jolly slow and steady after my knee and ankle pain on the last run. I also picked a flat route with no hills.
4) I like runs with no hills ๐
5) Thankfully knee and ankle seemed to hold up ok, and I even felt able to push myself a bit faster in the last 5 mins, which I was pleased with.
6) My legs felt a bit heavier throughout. Iโve often seen this attributed to lack of hydration on here, though am not aware of drinking less. I wonder if when my run happens in relation to breastfeeds is relevant? (In the morning I run before I feed; this evening I went out just after feeding).
7) Is there any wisdom on here about breastfeeding and running?

Great you eventually got out for your run and your knee and ankle were ok. From reading your post women who breastfeed need extra hydration anyway so maybe even more as your running also. Well done you ๐๐
Thanks Buddy ๐ Yes, definitely re extra fluid needed for breastfeeding!๐ถ๐ป Though weโre down to just morning and evening feeds now. Havenโt noticed hydration being a problem thus far, so perhaps something to do with the time of the run relative to the breastfeed on this occasion...
So interesting to read your post & glad it was an enjoyable run. Definitely need to keep up those fluids with breastfeeding.. & you must be tired after caring for your babe all day..so extra well done๐๐
Thanks Annie ๐ Weโre down to 2 feeds now (morning and evening), and hydration hasnโt been a problem thus far, so thinking it may be down to the time of the run relative to the feed... learning new things every day ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Great to hear you got out eventually, and it sounds like you did well. Good news about the ankle and knee. Slow and steady certainly pays off!
I'm not very experienced when it comes to breastfeeding. Despite fathering 3 children, the lack of boobs limited my ability to breastfeed quite considerably, however, for what it's worth, my advice would be that feeding your baby before or after a run will be a lot easier than during it.
Here's hoping the weather picks up as I'm due a run tomorrow and like you, I'm not a fan of being outside in torrential downpours while thunder & lightning blast around me.
Thanks JoJo ๐ Yes, it was really interesting! Good to know I can change the time of the run and still manage it ok, though think Iโll probably stick to mornings in general (thunder and lightning permitting!)
Great that youโre getting your family well trained to accommodate your runs! Iโm no expert on breastfeeding, but certainly notice that my legs are more sluggish if I run in the evening. It always takes me a while to get some life in my legs (which I put down to age!) but in the morning they definitely function better. But sometimes an evening run is what I need to sort my head out after a crazy day.... Any run is better than no run!
My legs are feeling heavy too recently but I know I'm not drinking any less, I am in the process of increasing my time and runs so I'm putting it down to tiredness! Our poor legs are probably shattered ๐
