So I did W6R1 today and struggled more than with any of the previous runs. I think there were a few factors.. it was pretty warm this afternoon which I always find tough and I also had 5 days break since my last run as I was on holiday and didn’t quite manage to stick to my routine and I seemed a bit off kilter today.
It also seems so strange to have managed a 20 minute solid run which wasn’t too bad but struggled to go back to interval runs. I also don’t understand the reason behind why there’s a 20 minute run then back to interval running?!

Week 6 runs 1 and 2 catch a lot of people out. You’re not alone there.
Week 4 is actually the step up: you go from 9 to 16 minutes. You don’t actually run much further in week 5 if you look at it, but what happens is you walk less: from 3 walks in week 4 to 2, then 1, and finally no walk breaks in w5 r3.
So it helps if you understand that week 5 is about reducing your reliance on walking, not about running for longer.
Now if you look at week 6 - it’s like week five but a bit longer. This time your third run is 25 minutes and again you progress from two walk breaks, to one and finally none.
Trust the programme. The people who designed it knew what they were doing, everything is there for a reason and thousands and thousands of people have succeeded with it. You can too.
If you read an old post of mine for this run i felt exactly the same and also i had been away and hadnt run for over a week... The replies helped to know i wasnt the only one who struggled.. Its just a matter of sticking to the plan as you will achieve your goal... I just ran my first 30 minutes yesterday and only have 2 more runs until i graduate... Enjoy your day and think how far you have come in just 6 weeks 😁
I completed W6 yesterday and struggled with R1 too after finding W5R3 not too bad. I did find R2 easier though but then R3 Was tough again as it was back to no breaks. I’m hoping W7 gets easier. We can do this 💪🏃♀️
