First run after graduation

I graduated on Friday which I can’t quite believe. Was so unfit before I started.

I did extra to the plan in that I spent an hour on the treadmill each time, mainly fast walking so I didn’t tire myself out. Before the plan I was walking for an hour anyway, so didn’t want to cut back.

Yesterday I decided to do my first street run. That was really challenging. I did a slight incline on the treadmill, but this was really different. I’m on holiday in Carbis Bay at the moment, and if you know it you’ll know it’s really hilly! Even though I didn’t think I was, I clearly started off too fast as I didn’t manage a full 30 minute run, but had to slow to a walk a couple of times, in the end covering just over three miles. I’m not disappointed though, I knew it would be a challenge when I had to set my own pace, especially in this terrain, and I’m really pleased I did it. I ran around streets and ended up on the beach, which was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. Looking forward to my next run tomorrow.

Now I’ve completed the programme, I have no guilt about not always completing 30 full minutes running, I think the most important thing is still getting off the couch! If I can do the programme, anymore can. A positive side affect to this, and small diet changes, mean I have lost 20lbs so far too.

Oh, and for anyone feeling self conscious about running in public, nobody took a blind bit of notice at all!

Congratulations on completing the plan! That’s fantastic!

I too struggled with pacing myself - I actually still use the c25k app at the start of my runs (repeating the final run of the plan) as I find this helps me get into a decent rhythm. I’m sure others can recommend good apps for pace.

Enjoy your holiday, such a beautiful part of the country. Happy running!

That’s brilliant, well done! I can feel the pride in you achievement which is amazing!

I have done my runs on the road since the beginning (a pretty flat route), I didn’t realise it made such a difference. I have mainly done this to double up my exercise with a dog walk. It’s interesting to learn these things. I have now set up a treadmill to use on the days I can’t get “out” so I will see this for myself. Thank you for posting as it’s inspired me to carry on too! 😊

What a lovely run outside. So you know the next time you are in charge of your pace so keep it slow. Well done you 😊
