Hello runners:)

Here we are at the beginning, ( nearly) of a new month!

I am so sorry that I am a day late with this post!!

I had a great start to September with a Spitfire Race 10K at RAF Cosford yesterday. I was staying in a caravan, in the middle of the countryside, and the WiFi was simply not available!

Home now and trying to catch up with you all!

There are so, so many of us running now and doing the most amazing things... This is a great place to share your thoughts and your running plans with each other:)

The number of folk on the forum is still increasing... we can hardly keep track! It s tricky to keep up with everyone's progress... it is great to have a little fun post, so we can see who is on which week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

I apologise if I miss posts or replies, as there really are a lot of us!

We can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just Graduated, also, this will be a great place to keep you motivated,and there is a brand new Quest on here, every month too...please do take a look and join in!

Hi Oldfloss, nice to read your blog. This week I am trying to train for the Knowsley Safari 10 mile run, a week after Chester metric marathon. I ran 10 mikes in training last Saturday but my muscles are so achy today, I’m 65 so no spring chicken, raising money to for London landmarks run next year in aid of brain tumour charity. It’s hard going and stressful but determined to do all of these runs. Raised Β£160 already through just giving. Very busy time for me Oldfloss. Hope everyone is ok on here, happy running all of you.

Huge well done you... and a really busy time too. Yes, at 69 ,I find I have to keep up my strength and stamina work to keep on top of all the running adventures...but we keep running don't we :)

I’ve just completed week 4, on to week 5 on Wednesday.

Feel like I’m learning a lot about giving myself a proper rest and listening to my feet/legs when they’re hurting.

I need to remember the things that work and stick to them - not cut my warm up short or run uphill as per tonight’s run and post.

I’m targeting a 10k in February and can’t wait to get to to Week 7 when I think I might start going to Park Run and using Strava etc to monitor progress.

I’m a little bit concerned about how much I struggled with the uphill part of my run tonight. Where I live there will be no way of getting to those longer runs without having to do some uphill running.

If it's any consolation it makes you stronger..I had to practice running on flat before my HM...slower on flat than on hills🀣

Just follow the plan..slow and steady...you will be fine.

This is my first week as a graduate, so it feels a little strange! I'm planning to still do 3 x 30 mins but woke up feeling like I'm coming down with a cold today so feeling a bit sorry for myself and also annoyed it may stop me from running! Any advice on whether to run if feeling unwell? I guess it might clear the cobwebs, but on the other hand I'm feeling really achey everywhere so am thinking it might be a struggle!

Why does life have to get in the way of running?!

I've also been looking into organised runs and am thinking of signing up for the Great North 10k as it's June next year so plenty time to work up to 10k!

Don't run until you feel better...and when you do..not just 30 minute runs.shake it up..30 minutes yes..but shorter and then some long slow runs.

They are the ones that build up stamina and strength.. perfect for your first 10K!

Great - Thank you! I'm hoping to try my first park run on Saturday, as long as I'm feeling ok. I guess the good thing about running is that it's always there, even if we have to miss a few days..!

I'm aiming for a 10k in May. At my pace I'd be running for around an hour and a half though 😳

I’ve completed W6R1. Was supposed to do run 2 today but was at a wedding yesterday so haven’t been feeling tiptop ☺️

Back to work tomorrow after a week off so I think a de-stress post-work run will be in order!

Really enjoying the programme and can’t wait to be able to say I’m a graduate!

Just done my first run since I graduated. I did 30 minutes, which still isn't 5k for me, but I don't care. I never thought I'd be able to run for 30 minutes! I'm planning another 30 minutes on either Wednesday or Thursday and intending to brave my first Park Run on Saturday 😳. Found out my local run ends up a hill though so quite nervous about that!

W1 R1 completed today. The last 60 second run felt really hard but I stuck with it & was really pleased with myself at the end. Although I really can't imagine ever being able to run for a solid 30 minutes!

I've been doing the program and using park run as one of my runs. The session runs out long before I am at the end! On Saturday after the warm down I slow jogged the remaining time. In total I jogged for 33 mins (but not all at once). It works this training malarkey.

I'm two runs into week seven - had a couple of bad runs, which meant that I had to re-do W6R2 and then ease back into the 25 minutes. I have a (non-competitive) 5k booked for this Saturday which was supposed to coincide with me finishing the programme, but oh well - I'll do it anyway.

However...amongst all my trial and tribulations with W7, I decided to try my hand at parkrun on Saturday. I managed it - the whole 5k, no stopping, no walking. A full eight minutes longer than I've ever run before - not a great time, but considering I'd never run more than 4k in my life, I was pretty chuffed!

Sorry I am late !! W2R1. Tomorrow w2r2. I'm finding easier than i expected to control my beathing but my legs feel just too heavy and my ankles are "disappointed" with this new activity!! πŸ˜†. Also I am running slower than I can walk. πŸ˜…Sure I will improve in the following weeks !! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Well done..do the warm up well and the post run stretches linked in the FAQ for Newbies... Keep it slow and steady and do begin to pop in some strength and stamina work on some of your rest days too:)

Moving on to Week Eight shortly. I'm feeling very lucky to have a job that allows me to get running in the morning before I start work. I don't think I could have even started this journey if I was not working from home.

Plans for this month - well I ought to be graduating on or around 19th September, and am planning to celebrate by doing my local ParkRun that weekend. Which reminds me, I'd better get registered. Off on holiday at the end of the month, and I'm planning on taking my running gear with me as I don't want all that lovely German sausage and beer have too much of a detrimental effect.

I'm also hoping to quit smoking (again) this month, my local corner shop is closing for a couple of weeks, so that gives me the ideal way of cutting out the fags. If I can't buy them, I can't smoke them right?
