Injury strikes.... So unhappy

It's been a rubbish week. Long days at work have meant an extra "rest" day as couldn't fit in a run. So today I went out really excited to get week6 run2 under my belt.

First 10mins hard but okay. Jo told me to set off again when my knee decided to pop. Had to hobble back to the car and admit defeat. So disappointed.

This is an old I jury that has been fine through my six C25k weeks so far. Don't know how long to leave it before trying again. Even considering strapping it up, taking some pills and heading out tomorrow...... Thoughts?

Nooooooooo. Need to rest it. Pills will get rid of the pain while you run and do damage. Understand your frustration as there at mo myself and was given wise advise on here that being a runner requires patience. We’re in this for the long run (pun intended) so rest up and be gentle with your recovery.

No. Rest it. The runs will wait.

If you want to feel active go swimming or do a chair cardio workout.

Don't push through pain.

Just rest! Or you risk making it much worse.

Frustrating it may be, but rushing back when it still hurts will make your journey much longer overall. There's a lot of us who can relate to your pain and disappointment. Hang on in there.

I think that you know what we are thinking!!!.

Running consecutive days, uninjured would not be a good idea, but injured?....

You need to rest until you are pain free, however long that is, the runs will wait for you, but running on an injury will keep you out for longer.

Perhaps think about seeing a sports physio whilst things are healing, did you have gait analysis prior to this?, if not its worth doing once your knee is better, before you start up again.

Take care, and good luck 😊

Thanks Jell6.

I won't be going anywhere today, pain is worse that yesterday 😞

Yes had gait analysis done in week 2 and purchased some lovely running shoes. Not had an issue since. As I say the injury is old. It reared its head when I was training (and doing) a walking marathon for Macmillan in June. Hasn't been a problem since until yesterday.

Worried about how far this will put me back in the programme when I'm better...

It depends how long your knee is a problem for. I graduated, and then due to injury, recovery and a holiday I was out on the IC for about 8 weeks, yes it was frustrating and disappointing and after a couple of false starts, then a sports physio, I ended up redoing the whole programme.

My point is, you will get there🤗

Extra rest days are beneficial in my experience, especially around week 6. I took 12 weeks to graduate because I listened to my body and I was patient. I would recommend that to anyone who is at week 6. I’m doing my consolidation runs now, still 30 minutes long, but three 5k runs consecutively are still a bit tough on the knees so I rested after Wednesday’s run until Saturday and felt soooo much better. Don’t push yourself too hard to meet any deadlines at this point. All the good preparation you do now will pay off in a couple of weeks time. The body needs time to adjust to running so being patient will pay dividends.

Jell and centurion have given great advice based on experience, I know how blimmin miserable it is on the IC, but give yourself a chance to heal now, and you'll be back out there stronger.

Knees aren't designed to be treated just with pills. Only a good physio or an osteopath will touch mine and, no, you can't run through pain or discomfort when knees are concerned otherwise you'll quickly reach the stage of no running at all. Been there, done that.

Being a good girl and resting up. Just had a gentle walk with the dog, and now resting again.

I'll be patient and make do with reading all your posts for now.

Thanks all. Xxx
