Out with injury

Did W5R3 (20min run) with a bit of pain in right ankle but found it absolutely fine, however once I stopped running I found it almost impossible to do the 5 min walk due to pain. Having googled symptoms it looks like tendonitis. I haven't been out running for a week now but don't want to have to start again from beginning. How long can I not run for without have to restart? Anyone else had this?

No advice except for to say ankle pain has recently stopped me too, pain kind of travelled around from the outside to the inside. I have left it a week, am debating going today. Would love to hear what people reply, I am on week 4 run 3 and don’t want to lose momentum as I had just started to enjoy it 😢 good luck!

Hi Tendance

Thank you for your reply, it's so annoying isn't it? I'm 2 weeks out now and ankle still painful. How is yours, are you back running yet?

Good luck and keep going! 😊

Have done the final run of week 4 (had a week break) and the first of week 5. The pains are getting worse now after each run. I probably have the wrong trainers. The niggles are really frustrating as I really want to do it otherwise. Can you try a power walk to see how you get on? Good luck!

That's great! I still haven't been back out yet, ankle is still swollen and hurting although seems to be improving so I'm hoping to carry on in about a week. I just hope these pains are not going to be something we're stuck with 😭 Me too with the trainers 🥴

Welcome to the forum and well done your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration, dealing with injury and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

you will be fit to run when you are pain free and have the full range of movement........how long that takes will depend on may things, but if you follow the advice in the guide on dealing with injury you can minimise the duration.

Take care.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks for replying Iannoda

I'm hoping I won't be out for too long and will be able to pick up where I left off, I never thought I would ever miss running but I do! 😀

Me too, I was on week 7, run 2 had no problems until then ☹️. After 7 days of pain since the last run, I went to the hospital yesterday to make sure I hadn’t broken anything. I hadn’t so they say it’s tendonitis. The advice they gave was rest ☹️ And if not better in 2 weeks time go to the GP for further advice and physio.

Ooh I feel your pain LVLady!

I've now had this for just over 2 weeks now, going to contact my GP today for some advice.

I hope you're up and back out asap and can pick up where you left off.

Good luck xx

I contacted my GP through their website today (an eConsult) explained symptoms etc, I then received an email saying that a physiotherapist will phone me on Thursday. I'll let you know what they say x
